Is starbound "dead"?

like, the devs dont update the game more, so its "dead" for the devs, but it is dead for the community? or it still got a lot of fans and mod makers?

Literally look up how well Fallout 76's few first months of launch went and you'll get the idea.

Ehhh...you know I honestly want to say some memeish back but the fact I honestly cant bring myself to turn this thread into a "he said/she said" VS thread situation honestly I think I'll drop the topic here. As much as we could go back and forth its..honestly subjective as games are games and I got no right on telling people how to enjoy what they enjoy nor to tell people how bad a game is that they enjoy either.

I also know Skyrim came out in 2011, Special Edition came out in 2016, and the current one also that came for free in 2021.

Yet ironically, steam does not see them as the same game in any form. As I showed you one link, Skyrim special has 20k
Skyrim itself has less then it.

the base game has less because everyone has special edition, funny enough starbound is still struggling to beat base skyrim when you can't even search on steam for the game? imagine that, a hidden game still pumping out the same numbers as a game featured in the store every month.

Going by this logic, if Skyrim was 1 core, not as known as it is in the franchise, and not made by Bethesda it wouldn't see as many players as it does and we know that. Plus as the other guy said it's 2d vs 3d and if you bring terraria it has been out longer and people stick to what they know and what's cheaper.

Yes, it's dead. The devolpers infought for years, the lead dev and his right-hand artist are just awful people, development paused after an Xbox One port was in the oven for years, and when that was cancelled, everything left was quietly shelved. There's a laundry list of features that were either never added to the game despite years of claims, or were never reimplemented after being cut when the game came out of early access for bad reasons.

While the game has a relatively bustling mod community, some RP servers left, and the source code having been leaked means anyone could take a stab at their own fork of the game, Starbound has been hemorrhaging players since it's heydey. I don't recommend it; Terraria, a game whose overwhelmingly positive reputation precedes itself, offers a similar experience, and one of it's former employees has started a spiritual successor called Farworld Pioneers you should look into instead.
