If projectile spam fits your style better, you should farm tier 5 planets for Throwing Stars. Those things can be spammed like nothing else, especially if you have them in both hands. If you have a bunch of Snowflakes from going through Ice biomes, Snowflake Shurikens, crafted at an Anvil/Forge/Replicator, trade some damage and fire rate for the ability to chill enemies.
Though legendary weapons found on Extreme and Inconceivable danger planets are very good, don't forget about the craftable upgrades to Boomerangs, Chakrams and Gauntlets (all of them are equivalent to tier 5 legendary weapons). You will want to scour Desert and Forest planets for the Boomerangs, Chakrams and Gauntlets, though Risky and Dangerous difficulty planets can also have these items. If Biggy's Reputable Weaponry doesn't have the upgrade you want, you will need to find and learn the blueprint yourself.
Note: for all types of Gauntlets, including the Supernova Gauntlet (?), you won't be able to unlock their full damage potential unless you're wielding two of the same kind at once.
Here are some more powerful Legendary weapons: Tesla's Staff, Remote Grenade Launcher, Lucaine's Energy Whip, Magnorbs (this one trades offense for the ability to make a shield on the fly), Alien Appendage (not to be confused with Alien Worm Gun, this one only requires one hand to use)
Of course the list would be incomplete without Protector's Broadsword, which can only be obtained if you don't throw away the Broken Broadsword that you start with. The Violium, Aegisalt and Ferozium crafted weapons are quite fun, even if they aren't necessarily the best weapons.
