1.4 Cancelled
So I just found out today they cancelled the bounty hunter update (1.4). Honestly, while the devs may be right and the update might have felt like an attached feature more than a part of the game, it would've been nice if either:
1. They said when they may work on the bounty hunting again.
2. They focused more on some new gameplay rather than a console release
or 3. They released at least something, anything even some bug fixes to hold us over a tiny bit longer.

I waited quite a long time for the bounty hunting update, I even created a novakid character and played the crap out of the game again to hype myself up for the update. But now its cancelled? Im honestly really disappointed chucklefish. Yeah, it'll be worked on sometime down the line (possibly), but if it does happen to be worked on again itll likely be years from now.

you didn't predict anything, they still care but i believe they lost all passion to work on it, but they do still care about the community, they just can't get to it without the passion that they had before..

Its not an issue with passion, they said they simply dont believe it fits in the game. Im 99% positive that the update was finished, and simply needed some bug fixing and minor polishes until it was ready for release, but the only reason they cancelled it is because they felt like it didnt fit and "wasnt on their level of entertaining and fun".

If we can just believe what any developper says then Destiny's devs learned where they ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up 3-4 times by now. And if an entirely new mechanic in such a type of game isn't on their level of entertaining and fun, please tell me, what is ?
edit: sorry if i was rude, i was just pissed at the cancellation of the update. I still stand by my idea that the devs are still trying to give new content but can't do as much as before because they lost their passion.

First off, dont worry you didnt come of as rude, im still just as pissed at the them cancelling the update too.
Secondly, i believe that the bounty hunter update wouldve been extremely fun, but for some rediculous reasons the devs said "oh nah, this update isnt fun enough we can do better". They showed off enough for people to know it was gonna be awesome, but rather than releasing it after some polishing they decide to trash it for now to focus on the Xbox One release. Because yknow, people on Xbox One are totally gonna buy a million copies of this game.
Console won't have mods, so whats the point? If you can't mod starbound, you're not gonna get a whole lot of gameplay out of it. Especially with the vanilla intro missions. With mods you can not only fix a whole lot of issues, but you can add hundreds of hours of gameplay. I have over 800 hours in Starbound at this current moment. Why? Mods. If I played without mods? I'd have about 20 hours tops.

In short, the devs have no idea what they're doing. If they really dont want the bounty hunter update out, then they should focus on polishing the game itself. Starting off with fixing the awful first mission where you have to get a bunch of those stupid core crystal things. They should do what frackin universe did and make players run through a dungeon to get those core crystals, not either dig to the earths core or explore some boring mine looking for scraps.

I totally agree with you sadly. I'd love to say the devs are great, while they may be great people, they aren't great game developpers. I'd say that it would be a good idea to let the frackin' universe team take over the developement of the game, since they did a pretty good job making me play this game about 40 times longer than i would've otherwise.

I cannot say, in the slightest, that this surprises me. What will surprise me is if we actually see another update. My money is on "After XB1, it's done."

we're most likely gonna get an actual update after the xbox one release tbh. It sucks, but the devs have their priorities set on making money (even though xb1 release wont make them much cash).

I felt the other 2 updates were pretty tacked on. Could just be me. I was actually looking forward to the bounty hunting missions. Oh well the community is doing a bang up job with features and you can pick what you want so atleast we have that. You know someone in the community who wanted that update as bad as we did will take matters into their own creative hands and make it a thing.

It'll be impossible to make the bounty hunting thing as good as the devs were gonna make it (the cool board, how the missions work, ect) but im sure someone can make something sorta like it kinda. But itll be super hard to make, so I doubt anyones really gonna make it. We're just gonna have to wait a few (or a lot) years until devs release bounty hunting in a way thats "on their level of fun".

game is dead , i will never trust a early access game after this an 7 days to die an about 80 percent of the other EARLYACCESS titles The on early access title off the top of my head were the player didnt get screwed was Terraria, why would they keep working on this when they can just make a new game an arent going to get any more sales? This game has been dead an should have been scrapped 2 years ago. Remember when it first hit steam an space ship battles were promised? No excuse for this game not to have 10,0000 times more content then it does, an the amount of time it took to gt to the point its at is laughable. Dont get me wrong ive enjoyed the game but just let it die already. the devs have

It's literally just randomly generated missions, most of the work would be in writing the dialogue, they already have a mission system that RNG's missions, they'd just be condensing it down into a single board instead of the NPCs that wander around the towns.

I don't really see any problem to integrate it more into the game, when it comes to lore at least.
The bounties could be advertised out as a plan from another surviving part of the Terrene Protectorate, which is more concerned about reestablishing the organisation, and - instead of focusing on the Occasus and Ruin like Esther does - focuses on securing and protecting the daily lives on the planets.
That was one core competencies of the organisation, even one reason why it was founded in the first place. And we are supposed to believe, they don't know how to integrate it?
If anything, this theme for an update fits the game much better - so much better - than the mechs and random space anomalies, ancient vaults and weapon upgrades, terraforming and elemental attributes, or made up collections, which give the player nothing except something to,well, collect.
But it is as it is...the positive side is, for a very long time most mods will be save to use. No update ahead, which makes them incompatible overnight.
