they were known for the fact that most of the games sprites especially were made by people who weren't so experienced and were trying to get into the game dev scene.
because of this they were able to get away with not paying for a lot of labor on the game.
they were known as well for taking all of a day to boot people.
a lot of these people were also minors.
they were sued for it, and the game has not been updated since about 2019.
the bounty hunter update was the last one, and i do not expect any more updates to ever happen.
The game has been finished for years. Any and all updates after 1.0 were just bonus updates, like you see with Terraria.
Don't believe anything you read on these forums, as someone said before, it isn't as black and white as: "Chucklefish did this thing and they're awful"
There's a whole bigger part of this story then summerized before.
Yeah most people leave out the part where the story came out on social media by those that were upset with the cut they got (as everyone was compensated per their contracts...) with Chucklefish offering to discuss it with them. But it all was coming out about 7+ years after the "fact" when Starbound was suddenly profitable enough for the studio to start other projects and was almost entirely "he said, she said" with only vague references to emails and other things... but nothing concrete ever offered or any actual court case or legal proceedings which would have been possible at the time as there is no stature of limitations on the labor law violations they were accused of. Funny enough it died off quickly from news sites and other places when words like libel, slander and defamation where mentioned in regards to unsupported allegations ... aka "put up or shut up"
Based on what? Random claims that none backed up with any evidence?
