Starbound FPS Optimization
Hello! The Quest For FPS is a popular guide of mine but was outdated, now it is updated and has a video to go along with it!

Doesn't starbound always run a server, not matter if it's single or multi player or steam multiplayer on/off? Performance gain must have some other reason.

Anyways, I did all of them and my FPS despite having a decent PC are still pitifully low, especially around my own bases and the outpost.

It's seriously sad how bad the game performs since neither looks nor simulation or physics justify it. It is such a fantastic game besides that performance issue, but it is bad enough to make me hesitant to play it. :/

Sucks to hear that, Chucklefish is currently making like 2 or 3 more games so I doubt we'll be getting another update for a while to help with optimization. I'm not sure if Starbound ALWAYS runs a server but yes it does at least enable it to where your friend could join you but that ♥♥♥♥♥ up your fps real bad.

yeah i used to have really bad fps on this game one or two years ago. Gave up on it, last month i formated my pc tried this game again and it was running pretty decent. I will never understand it, the only reason i had formated the pc was to change OS to 10 and everything was running ok on the older os LOL

Maybe chucklefish was predicting future and made it perfect for W10 before it was even released :P

Yeah, I have like 4 different mods for optimization, and the starmap is still so laggy that I can't even see the cursor move. I really want to like this game, but the disgusting amount of lag makes it really hard to do so.

Starmap is lightest thing for me but when i have zoom at furthest ship is causing a lot fps drops x)

Oh yeah, I can barely move in my own ship even on full zoom. Very frustrating.

As for the starmap lag. I've notices that if you use a mod that increases the number of stars it lags badly at the navigation screen (until it zooms into a planetary system). I'ts keeping track of all those extra stars that is the issue. Once I removed the more stars mod, it fixed the lag problem at the navigation screen. Which was problematical. I *wanted* more stars. Then I found one that was called "slightly starrier" which only added a little more stars, and it was just fine.

I don't have any mods that do that. The base game's starmap is just that laggy for me.
