Was Starbound abandoned?
I have to say folks what a lot of us have been thinking. I think Starbound has been abandoned by developers. There haven't been any news or any new patches for Starbound For a while now. Effectively last Changelog (1.3.2) is dated 18th July, 2017.

We were expecting 1.4.0 patch the Bounty Hunter upgrade but it was officially cancelled. So the question to the developers of this awesome game is: Did you abandon the game?

We want to know, because either we think this game is done and there will be no new content, or we must have some expecations for future. Don't get me wrong, this game is awesome and I loved every second playing it, but after some time you start to wander will there be new content? More bosses, more items to craft and/or acquire/buy.

It's ok if you did, a little disappointing, but it's ok. I have been with this game since the early stages, when it was just a website and a very good concept. I was there on the forums making giveaways and other things for steam games. I would be delighted if you told me that there will be more, but please at least (no offence, just for comedy) have the common decency to find a big rock and finish us off.

TL;DR I want Starbound developers (Chucklefish) to answer question: Is Starbound abandoned?

Last update October 16th, 2018.

Supposedly the console version was taking quite a bit of time. Most of the post is about discord integration into the game (Beta V1.3.4) or something like that. But this is said at the end:

"Our focus has shifted back to PC in the past few weeks and we’re planning to have an update ready very soon. We’ll share a post detailing more about that update shortly!

Till next time!"

Chucklefish realy need to work on their definition of "shortly".

Basically with the excuse of business, when they feel like it.

That is why I asked the question actually. I was monitoring the blog almost every day to see any news about new patch. When they said "shortly" and didn't deliver, naturally I thought that we have been abandoned.

Until we have an answer from one of the developers, I don't think that we can close this discussion. Thanks for the answer though ^_^

Try on their forums. They have only ONE "dev" here. And it's a part timer who's only here to tamp down flames. If you really want an official answer, go to THIER forums.... where they will point out any official answer will be on their blog. That's all the official answer you're going to get either here, or there.

It is a good game, and a far better one than expected. My only issue with it is that when I scan dozens of items, it slows the game down. The slowing down is so bad that I have had to redesign all my bases so that they either smaller, or vertically shaped. Even after 1 year, I do play it every so often. Its only rivals for me are Rise of Nations (*because I depend on that game economically somewhat) and chess (because it is shorter and less taxing).

Seems to me you can only find information if you search for it. Normally developers would tout their plans to keep people interested in the game. Starbound hasn't had that. I'd say it's abandoned for now. Their focus has shifted onto new games. So I guess the sales for Starbound must not have justified a ten year plan, so to speak.

Good for you. Nobody is arguing whether it's a good game or not though. I don't think that I would be wrong if I assumed that everybody here thinks that SB is a great game.

Discussion is about, whether the developers abandoned SB or not.

from what i hear they're looking to hire some extra employees to work on starbound, if they get them hopefully more updates will come quicker
Not exactly abandoned, but put on hold until Chucklefish finds some more artists and programmers to work on it.

A majority of Chucklefish's staff is currently focused on finishing Wargroove, which is expected to release some time early this year. They might get back to updating Starbound once Wargroove is out. Emphasis on "might".

They recently put up a store page for Wargroove, in case you want to check it out. It has Florans in it as well.
