Starbound or Terraria?

I'm planning to buy one of the two games to play with my girlfriend.
We like building, having pets, surviving, good character creation, etc.

Which one do you recommend for us?

You haven't been around long if you're so easily dismissing the Starbound community, and Terraria has the same amount, if not less replayability, than Starbound. The absolute [only] thing Terraria has over Starbound is the performance.

I have over 420 hours on Starbound, and over 1100 hours on Terraria. Can you see the replayability part now? Starbound sucks badly without any mods. Oh and unless you're an owo gay furry, the community is not for you. Especially the official Discord server, as much as it should be dared called official. That place is absolutely terrible. The only good side of the community is the side that posts memes, and we generally agree that the community is pretty bad. I know what I'm talking about, if you want just read my review.
Also, why do I get the feeling you've never played Terraria?

We got Starbound, but I will buy Terraria in the future.

We like it so far! She stole a guitar from a npc thing and had fun playing it while I was being beaten by monsters haha. We also downloaded a pokemon costume that looks cute on her character (she loves character customization). Now we gotta find a way to get fuel for our ships :]

Oh, about we should get out together instead of playing games, we're in a long distance relationship because of work and playing games together is a way for us to bond. And even if we were living together (again) we would still play games because we're both gamers

lmao yes, i believe you've just met avali triage, some friends of mine have told me about it and i got to see it for myself, it's full of toxic furries.

"just met"? I've been on the official Discord server (a.k.a the absolute majority, over 6000 members) and it's absolute cancer. The avalis aren't always that bad (unless it's a toxic furry lol)

Seems you're really new to the community then. Yeah, Starbound has its bad (as literally every gaming community does, even your precious Terraria) but it's primarily good if you're actually looking instead of simply throwing it into a generalized pot of "I'm too lazy so this fits my argument". The only reason you "get the feeling I've never played Terraria before" is because I said you're new here. And guess what? As per being part of the community, you are. You can be there, but you're clearly reclused enough to not have a single idea of what you're talking about. So my statement stands. That said, the Official Discord server is for all of CF's games, which is not limited to Starbound. Looking and being active are two totally seperate things. You may wanna hop on realizing that.

I've played Terraria extensively. It's absolutely nothing special unless you're into forced events and boss grinding. That's all it has going for it. Oh, and better performance. I can give you my hours for both but I guarentee my replayability has found itself in Starbound's favor thrice over Terraria's mind-numbing linearity.

Starbound is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ broken. The devs haven't posted an update in over a year. Seems like a great game eh? You act like you've played like 15 minutes of Terraria before claiming you're 100% a professional. At least Terraria works properly, and the devs don't just abandon the game for 16 months after every update. People keep trying to tell CF to fix the damn game, have you seen all of the bugs? Some simple things, like grammar mistakes, spriting mistakes and overall bugs still go unfixed. Yet, a year and the only thing the devs have done is CANCEL AN ENTIRE UPDATE. That's a hiatus prolonged even more.
As for the community part, I was talking specifically about the Starbound discord, not the CF Discord. I don't know what the hell you are talking about as I've never even mentioned the CF server. I'm not dismissing the entire community, as Starbound did, in the end, introduce me to the pile for example.
On a side note, I'm not "new to the community". I've been on the SB Discord since august, and I've been involved in the community ever since I bought the game. I have over 430 hours on this game. The community could easily recognize me, albeit I don't lurk in the Steam community section. Have you heard of patman's mods? Yeah, sane guy. Rare sight in this community. No matter where you go, most people will agree the community sucks. No point in defending it.

yeah i agree with that but idk i just like the story it's self i mean it ain't ground breaking or great i just like it for some reason.

From one who played since day 1... what they did was not only create a story (yes, only 1, a pitty.. there could lesser plots for each species to show more lore), but they weaved the tutorial into it... so you have to play a part, yes, yet untill the point of "the mission is this artifact, scan floran things for clues", it is all a tutorial... a streamlined, and I thing better, one than the original silly one... at receiving that quest, you are very much free to ignore the questline and go explore as you please - the quest untill then only fixed your ship and teached you the basics, scan included..

they could have added a skip tutorial to avoid all that, placing you as a standard protector, only stranded for the same reason.. maybe with all utilitys modules enabled and a tier 3 ship? that would be nice.. yet, if you have played dozens of runs it is no trouble to /admin give yourself 1 ingots for tech, some modules for the manipulator and others (and cash) for the ship.. and go from there after breezing past the short intro..

..and as a note, the intro only feels big because the story is rather short.. yet imo, better weaved then the terraria one..
