open world?
I played this game for about 50 hours when it was in pre-release. It was massively open world, I had a few boss battles on the first planet maybe and then I explored the galaxy collecting materials and upgrading. I absolutely loved it.

Then when it launched out of pre-release I reinstalled it and was horrified to find out it was a completely linear experience. I played for a little bit and gave it up.

It has had many updates since I last played, is this worth trying again? Is it more open world or is it linear?

Thanks
Sam

I'ts totally open past the first boss fight. After that first erchius crystal boss you don't have to finish ANYTHING else. Once your ship is fixed, and fueled up, you may visit any planet you wish, anywhere in the galaxy that you wish, EPP permitting. The rest of the story you can pretty much ignore now.

Edit, that being said, you will want to finish the story (which is opened one part at a tine, in order... sorry no way around that that I know of) in order to get to the vaults. That's pretty much the only way to get essence, and access to the terraforge and upgrade anvil. And those you will definately want access to at some point. But do it as you feel like, and visit all the worlds you want when you want (you may have to do some specific mining for some EPPs to allow you to survive on some of those planets. But after the first boss, do what you want, and go where you want. Let the scans come when you get them (I usually don't *do* any scanning, I murder the villagers and steal their stuff... items "scan" when you pick them up too. I may save the univers eventually but I'm really not the goody goody two-shoes the old bag lady makes me out to be. This universe is MY universe. I only beat the great Tentacle beast because he was destroying my playthings.
