How do you use the growing trays in FU?

I got 19 seeds, 1000 water, and 45 mulch but it won't grow anything.

It takes some huge time to grow. Use fertilisers

Growing trays are just veeeery slow, use hydro trays laterto grow something faster

I think growing trays take about the same time (the scans seem to show very low improvemnets to time even with high end boosters) as if you planted stuff in the soil. The thing is that you can get slightly better yields with little effort by adding things like mulch, or poop. I never tend to invest in them since it is way faster to just move to their powered upgrade. In fact there is little need to build more then one since you won't even have that much to grow before you repair your FTL and can replace them.
