Earth has been destroyed?

That doesn't sit well with me. Where are the ones that destroyed the Earth so I can go after them? I don't see any story or main quest in this game.

It's the exposition that you were forced to sit through. If you haven't seen it yet, on your starting planet travel around until you find the large gateway.

OK I am back on Menkar Rim II. The large gateway sends you back to Outpost. I have played the game maybe 50 hours and have found no way to get back at the guys that destroyed Earth.

explore the starting planet and youll find a portal you can open with 20 core fragments, go through the portal (and right) to find esther, she gives you a quest to familiarise yourself with the ark and then to repair your ship (allowing you to visit other planets) before going into the main story

I repaired my ship a long time ago. I think I remember awhile back going into a portal and not liking it and immediately teleporting out. Now the only portal I can find on Menkar Rim II sends me to Outpost. I guess I am screwed. :(

You need to go to the Ark at the outpost.

All that is at the Ark when you beam there is some hovering guy telling you he is there whenever you need him. No way to interact with or get him to talk further.

If you already have been to the outpost and repaired your ship--you have already been forced to watch the exposition about the big monster that ate Earth. Use J or the button on the side of your screen to open your quest journal. Do the quest with the bit "Main Quest" above it.

That is Esther. She already gave you the quest.
