I head that's what this game was like. Is that true? Because I really liked Terraria. Considering getting this.

Sort of, but Starbound has more story than Terraria does, along with an infinite universe.

OK. I've been looking through the Starbound vs terraria posts on this forum. Apparently collecting stuff and exploring multiple worlds and construction are all the main things this game has over Terraria.

The big things I really enjoy are multiple classes, and combat. Next big things include interaction with NPCs. Does Starbound have these things, and does it do it well?

Yes. There are actually side quests that NPCs will offer, along with the main story. The quests are randomly generated, and if you complate enough, the NPC will offer his/her services to you as a crewmate, allowing you to expand the size of your ship.

There are no classes in this game (though there is a mod that is adding rpg elements like stats, classes, and eventually specialization) but there is plenty of combat with a multitude of different weapons. There is plenty of interaction with NPCs through quests, crew, and colony building. Personally i think the interaction works well and is satisfying but everyone has their own opinion. Maybe check a couple videos that talk about colonies, quests, and crew.

I just bought it, I'll try it out for a couple hours and refund if it doesn't meet my expectations. Thanks everyone

well theres really not "classes" in terraria either. but there are armors more suited to certain types of weapons like in terraria. bow, 2hs, 1hs&shield, guns, wands.. also limited npc interaction. quests are random and very few types: bring note to x, bring note back to y, bring x item a, bring item b back to y; go kill z at point u and bring item back to me; go find v at point h and bing him/her back to me; heres c make/grow item and bring back to me. type of things otherwise just say random things.

As a fan of terraria and starbound, I think this is a good game for anyone who liked terraria, but keep in mind that this game is very different in a lot of ways.
Terraria to me was always about progression: building up your base and world, gathering supplies, all for the purpose of conquering bosses.
While you can do all that stuff in starbound, I don't think it's the main point of the game. Imo Terria has better combat mechanics and boss fights, and even though starbound and terraria have the same amount and variety of weapons, I definetely was not as invested in the armor and weapon progression in starbound as I was in Terraria. However, the armor in Starbound does look cooler generally.
Where starbound really excels, however, is in exploration. Terraria's world always seemed small to me. It was the same dungeon, jungle temple and etc, with only minor differences from playthrough to playthrough. Starbound, on the other hand has an infinite amount of unique worlds to explore, each with multiple different combinations of randomly generated structures, space ships and space stations, npcs, quests, and mobs. You travel from world to world, exploring, looting, and fufilling quests, before moving on, and each is a unique experience. Instead of building a base and making a world your own, you upgrade your ship and gather crew for a majority of the game, never hunkering down in one single planet.
While there are boss fights, I mostly spent my time gathering resources to gain access to newer worlds, and searching the cosmos for artifacts to turn my ship into a personal museum. What makes starbound great is the variety of generated structures, settlements, and planets to explore. The boss fights and story are decent and a nice add-on but are secondary imo.
Starbound also beats terraria when it comes to building. Starbound has a more diverse and athestically pleasing variety of furniture, building blocks, and decorations. Once you've beaten the game and decked out your ship, there's still lots of fun to be had building a colony, especially if you're into decorating. The thing is in starbound you probably wouldn't start building a base and village until you've already beaten all the bosses. The NPCs available to your settlments are better than Terraria, you have access to like 10 different races, each with specific variants with different professions. The way you attract specific NPCs to your settlement is also better executed in Starbound imo. You have to collect items related to the NPC you want to attract and decorate the house with them.
In conclusion, while Terraria and Starbound have very similar mechanics and visuals, the actual gameplay can differ. Terraria is more about fighing, starbound is more about exploration, at least in my opinion. Don't get me wrong though, Starbound's fighting isn't bad by any means, but on that front Terraria is better.
