is wet dirt different than mud?

Trying to find mud for my first furnace and I found "wet dirt." Someone please tell me how this is different than mud.

I thought mud was wet dirt.

Mud is more of a paste-like consistency, wet dirt is just dirt that is wet, think when you water the plants.
In-game mud is a greyish block, whereas wet dirt is a light brown.

If you are unable to find mud on the surface, you might have to dig deep down into the planet - just above the planet's core is a guaranteed source of mud, though you might have to travel horizontally for a ways to come across it if you're unlucky enough to end up drilling down into the middle of a fleshy or slimy place.

I've almost always found mud within 1-2 screens to the left or right of the mine on the initial planet.
