commands to spawn lorebooks

im trying to spawn lorebooks to read and i keep getting perfectly generic item each time

What are you typing?

You need to type the "itemname" for each book.

What starbounder doesn't tell you is that for some reason /spawnitem doesn't work with codexes. You really have to get them on your own. Something about the codexes is different from other tiems. You just can't seem to spawn em. Gotta find em.

im typing /spawnitem (race)history2 or other number/race and its giving me the generic item

This is correct. The reason /spawnitem doesn't work normally for codex entries and most blueprints is that they technically do not exist as static items in the assets in the same sense as, say, a piece of armor does. They're more like randomly generated weapons; when one is needed, the engine creates a temporary item at that moment. So for /spawnitem to work, it needs to know that it's generating a codex item, thus using the -codex suffix.
