Report a translation problem
1: collect items from the different races as you encounter them, and put the items in chests on your ship. Once you get the scanning quest for that particular race you load the items you have collected back into your inventory. If you happen to have collected an item that is targeted for scanning putting it in your inventory counts as scanning.
2. Liberally leave those teleport flags at each type of race location (e.g., temple, village, castle, prison). By the time you get your last few scan quests you should have enough locations and stored items to get through the scans pretty quickly.
To visit the ships you will need to do the mech quest through the stargate (lower level), if you have not done that already.

edit: don't worry about the circle thing, it is just an alarm. What you want are any containers.
