Terraria is more of an... Sandbox RPG. Its a very... straight forward progression, having to kill most bosses in a specific order to get deeper in to the game. While you do have some wiggle room, playthroughs are very similar to eachother. The bosses are what makes Terraria terraria, they are and kinda have to be better, because the game works fundamentally different. In Starbound the story is pretty much optional, except the first couple missions, in terraria, while not having a "story", is very linear. You gather resources, get yourself some gear and weapons, explore your procedual world, search for treasue and go about the game killing boss after boss. Terraria in its vanilla form is far better than starbound, and nobody can deny that. Terrarias modding community, while smaller, offers a lot of mods to spice up the game. Music is great, exploration is better too ( in vanilla).
If you are more into sandbox, builing villages, cities having a spaceship and exploring the cosmos, take Starbound. but be prepared to add 50+ mods into it, if you do decide to replay it. Especially the Frackin Universe mod makes the game 200% better.
If you like progressing in a more linear fashing, gathering resources, crafting armor and weaopns, exploring deep and rich caverns and biomes to find, summon and kill all of its 12+ bosses, take Terraria. Terraria doesn't have much of a post game tho, so after the last boss is dead,... well there is nothing much to do. A mod you should play, if the main game isnt enough for you (and you already beat it in vanilla) , is called Calamity, adding even more bosses and biomes to the game.
Or buy both, both are great games tbh.
A little tip for next time, dont be so... demanding(?) or rude in your comment. While I did what you asked... you could have asked nicer :P
why should people stop posting this kind of posts? It helps people see the difference between the two games better.
