Why does this game not have a map?
As the title says.. a map would make this so much better. I can't remember every single location I explore and how deep I go. Sometimes I want to just open up the map and remember where exactly I left off. Instead, I am stuck exploring new areas I did not want to start exploriing yet. Terraria has this feature, why not Starbound? Including a map in these sort of games is kind of like... a necessity.

But mods are awesome

From the looks of it, at least there are mods for such a feature.

As to reason... A quintillion planets compared to a single world; starbound compared to terraria... That is a lot of maps. Maybe they just have not figured on a style or formulated a way best or the way they want to go about it. It would mean extra files for sure along side the planets it saves.

In other words we are dealing with more than just one world in a proceduarly generated universe. I am sure there is a way, as noted the mods that have done it. Whom is to say the reason but they themself.

I would rather it be some type of item you have to make or use in order to get a map. That is me though. I can only hope in the future it will come about in some way or another. If a modder does not do it first; which I have not seen one for what I am wanting to see, just yet. :)

Yeah this absolutely needs a minimap.
Exploration is misery if you can't see where you haven't been yet.

I failed to think about this. I guess I am just so used to being in this one map that I forgot there are more worlds to explore. Makes complete sense though

I think its worth mentioning that it took something like 2-3 years before Terraria had a map.

the map files would be massive...

Fair enough. I can't argue that..

To be true enough, everything spawns on at least two worlds, the funny thing is is that if you don't remember where something is, it may be worth your time to find another planet than finding the same planet

If I die falling into a hole, my things only spawn where I die and I don't want to spend half an hour or die again falling into another hole trying to figure out where the hell I died.

True, I just try to remember where I was, either that or not take what I don't need. I'll usually grab a random sword or gun and a few healing items, that usually suffices

There's a mod called Memento Mori for that, it guides you towards your last death location :P

Also, i remember reading somewhere about a official Minimap, but i think they had issues with making it, so, who knows, maybe they will implement a radar/map/GPS item, maybe they wont because it can cause performance issues. (For example, the Ground Penetrating Radar mod can take a while to load the map and is kind of slow when you move through the map, and using the vainilla Cave Detector/Ore Detector can drop FPS on some computers)
