Although if you really can't manage the lack of hand-holding early in the game, you should probably get a refund now since the game certainly doesn't hold your hand later in the game and especially not for any of the bosses.
I said, the game told me, "Press Q to drop items. Press N to toggle scan on/off." I pressed Q, and I pressed N, and neither dropped the thing. I did exactly what it told me to.
And how would I know my weapon had a special attack, if it doesn't tell me?
I thought the starvation meter was an XP bar at first, because again, it didn't tell me.
It told me to use a crafting table, but not where it is. In Stardew Valley, it's in one of the pause screen menus. In Minecraft, you have to find or make a workbench yourself... I think. Is there one on my ship? Is there a town somewhere? Is it in one of the menus?
All I wanted to do was find out of there was a tutorial or not, asking if I should restart on Casual or if this was the best it was gonna get. Instead you talk down to me for not knowing the controls. Thanks. And yeah, I probably will get a refund.
Some of your other complaints have me scratching my head, not sure if you are being serious or not. Developers have to assume most players have a touch of common sense otherwise the tutorial/popups feel too naggy or babying. Yes if you fall off a cliff you will die, that's usually what happens in most games, I've never seen a game popup a warning about that.
Wait; does that also mean I will get hurt if I jump into lava? Or drown if I stay underwater for too long? Next thing you know you're going to tell me I need a spacesuit to go to moonclass planets :P :P :P
Also does the game not tell you how to craft right from the start? if it doesnt then ill agree with the basis of this post, cause atleast minecraft is like 'press e to open inventory'. I just havent played in a while so... An instance of 'press C to open crafting menu' should be at the begining of the game for sure.
So yeah if starbound was the first game of its type ever played by somone, it may be very well quite confusing at first. Its just that usually people pick up games like starbound after playing more popular ones like minecraft and were looking for more XD
Now that i think about it, how the heck would someone with no knoledge of minecraft ever figure out how to play the game if they didnt google it? they never tell you what the recipe for pickaxes/etc are outright do they?
The game should be fine once you get the hang of the keybindings and UI, as that was what was holding you up it seems, good luck if you keep the game. Sorry about the rest of the buttheads in the chat lol
I only played Minecraft for a few minutes at a friend's house, but I'm pretty sure the tutorial talked you through building a house, a bed, and a workbench. Then the workbench had blueprints or whatever for other stuff.
I would agree with this if there wasn't a big button on the screen that you can click to open the crafting interface. I find it hard to believe anyone loads up a game and plays for any length of time without looking at the onscreen buttons. Ignoring the keybinds and figuring stuff out on your own I can see (complaining about not being able to figure them out on your own is a bit silly). Ignoring the menu buttons though? Not sure if serious.
Heh, no. Minecraft doesn't have any tutorial whatsoever. It has the "Press E to open inventory" message and that's where it stops. There are no "blueprints" either, without mods you have to either guess recipes by placing random objects in various shapes in a crafting grid and hope it leads to something, or you have to look at a wiki.
"The Console Edition has a tutorial..."
http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Console_Edition_tutorial
"The tutorial walks the player through:
Chopping wood
Game controls
Creating planks and a crafting table
Inventory use
Creating basic tools
Using a furnace
Building a shelter
Surviving the night
Sprinting
Jumping
Hunger/Health
Other tutorials for items such as beds, Nether portals, boats, pistons, and fishing rods will pop up, but are not part of the main tutorial."
lol
