Colonies and Crew Members
You can get crew members thru building a colony. The thing that I'm wondering is is how you can force people in your colony to be a specific role as crew member?

I've heard that changing the decorations before they move in can change that. But what specifications are there? I can't seem to find any information on that.

The only way to force a specific role is the Job Offers mod. Otherwise, it's random. Changing decorations has no effect.

Yeah, from my understanding the items type/tag controls a colonists role, but once it's time for recruitment to the crew it's somewhat random. Though iirc the percent chance is somewhat logical. I.e. a colonist guard has a greater chance of becoming a soldier crewmember? I think the wiki has the specifics. Still RNG though.

Not true. Certain colonist types produce specific crew. Changing the furniture in a room before placing the deed determines the type of colonist you get which determines the type of crew they can turn into.

@Astasia - As I said it still has a % chance based on colonist type. The top of the page you linked says as much. It's not that the room furniture determines the type of crew, but the potential types (plural).

Sure, but sometimes it's 100%, like for the Philanthropist and Socialite colonists always becoming a tailor, or the various scientist colonists always becoming a scientist crew. If there is a specific crew type you want, then there's a specific colonist you can get to either ensure that crew type or greatly increase the chances.

My bad. There's one 100% there. The majority are by chance. I'm just pointing out since the OP wanted to know if there was a way to force it. Most of the time you hope for the best. Especially if you're going for a specific color chemist. 1 in 4. Not horrible odds but...
