Highest energy gear?
I'm looking for as much energy power as possible, seeing as I am playing a mage related class.
What gear gives you the highest energy potential?

Perfectly generic armor is best?

The Perfect set is the best armor set because it combines the upsides of all three branches of the high-tier armor sets (Separator armor's health, Accelerator armor's energy, and Manipulator armor's damage bonus).

If you don't yet have enough Perfectly Generic Items to start crafting the Perfect set, the solarium-tier armor sets crafted at the Accelerator's Table (that is, an Accelerator Addon placed on top of a Replicator) have the same energy bonus as the Perfect set.

Armor is not the only way to increase your energy - there are a few other ways as well.

There's a series of EPP augments, the Energy augments, which add a flat bonus to your energy pool when slotted into your EPP.

Many prepared food items (that is, those made on a Kitchen Counter) tending toward the sweet or metallic side of the food pyramid, when eaten, grant an energy buff which increases your max energy by 20%. If you don't have a Kitchen Counter yet and come across a vending machine, Soda and Oculemonade also give this energy buff.

The Energy Zone ability found on some staffs, though it doesn't improve your max energy, does improve your energy regeneration while it's active. Since energy regeneration rate is percentage-based (rather than being a flat rate), you will benefit more from Energy Zone if you have a high max energy.

P.S.: Magic weapons aren't actually the energy hogs you might think they are - though they do consume a lot of energy on use, there's usually a few seconds between uses during which your energy pool replenishes itself, making energy management a non-issue in most scenarios. Whenever I take the magic weapon route (or the throwing weapon route), I prefer Manipulator armor's improved damage bonus over Accelerator armor's increased max energy.

All foods and drinks that give the buff increase energy by 20%; however, higher quality foods generally have a longer duration on their energy buff. You can find buff durations at http://starbounder.org/Food#Cooking_Collection .
