They are supposed to be in forest biomes but they can turm up anywhere. Here's a tip, make flags and keep them in your backpack. Anytime you come to a colony or facility of any kind for the first time put a flag there so you can come back to it when it's time to scan that race's artifacts. You will be glad you did.

^^ I just normally bookmark the planet with whatever dungeons/villages there are, but that's just as good.

Anyway, if you ever want to find clues without help, just keep going to forest planets (or any other planet, Florans are just more common on Forest planets) and go all the way around the world, and you'll for certain find at least 1 (or more on bigger planets) village/dungeon of some race.

Also, another useful thing to do, is whenever you find a village/dungeon, just find the Key object hidden somewhere in there, and just take that with you and store it somewhere to use for a future quest. Normally, each village/dungeon will have one (or more?) of those key objects corresponding to whatever race it is. These objects are "key" because they give you 20/50 points required to complete the quest. (Note: you can use the same wiki site below to know what to look for, since some big things aren't "key", and some little things are. Also, Key objects are always rare (blue border).)

However, if you ever feel like you just want to basically skip finding artifacts with a bit of "cheating" (I don't do this, I just know of people who hate searching for clues who do this), just go on the starbounder.org wiki and search for the "Find Clues to Locate the [race] Artifact" quest page, and go down to "Key objects". click on an item, and look at the bottom of the page for the objectName. Then, in Starbound, enable admin, and do "/spawnitem [item name]". Get three key items, and you instantly finish the quest.

That is pointless when you can do /completequest commands. /completequest tech_scientist1
/completequest floran_mission1

and more

Thanks for pointing that out; I wish I knew that. Can it only complete quests that you already started, and not ones you're done with or ones you haven't started yet? Like, hypothetically, if I haven't even beaten the Hylotl library mission, then I can't complete the "find Glitch clues" or "get the Apex artifact", right?
Czarchanka Tinman Jun 30, 2017 @ 6:30pm
the human artifact mission is so easy....
Czarchanka Tinman Jun 30, 2017 @ 6:32pm
heres a crazy thing if you type "/settileprotection 0 false" you can actually mine the things in the story missions...

edit: that also means that you mine anything that the blue shielding apears on when you try mine it...

evil. the hylotl artifact altar makes a good birdbath...
