Is there any way to repair a pickaxe?

I remember some time ago you can just take ore and click RMB to a pickaxe but now it's not working.

Pickaxes were relegated to temporary mining tools a long time ago so that the Matter Manipulator could take their place as the go-to mining tool (especially after some upgrades). As a result, it is no longer possible to repair pickaxes (at least in vanilla Starbound).
