BEWARE: Of heavily customized players online.
If you didn't know this game has a massive amount of customized or modded items, weapons, gear, mechs, etc that is made by the online community and works with the vanilla game. No mod installation needed. Things that you won't find on the workshop. Things you can take onto any server with out needing mismatched assets enabled.

So I started to trading customized weapons online for other customized stuff. Turns out there are some crazy people that are really good at making custom items and straight up evil trolls.

I had a person the other day who wanted to trade. Let that person join my party. I beamed to her ship. I thought "ok cool this person wants to trade. She's got a heavily customized ship and character. All sign look good.". About two seconds after I got onto her ship she threw blocks at me giving me a status effect of doomed and a time stop so I couldn't move and was spooked. Turns out you can attach status effect to blocks. I immediately logged off. I didn't know whether I was about to be killed or not from the status effects. Who knows what else was attached to those blocks (things can be invisible). This person was likely trying to kill me to get me to drop any custom items I may have had on me. In other words this person was trying to steal from me.

So I reset my character offline with death in admin mode to get rid of the effects which weren't going away and logged back on. I said "WTF how rude!" and all that. This same person then beamed to my ship while not even in my party. How on gods earth is that even possible? This person was not an admin. She then threw invisible blocks(i found later) and ship fuel disguised as dirt on me. I then had an Erchius ghost chasing me on my ship. I logged off and went into single player. The damn ghost was still chasing me. Dumped my inventory and died to get rid of it. I'm also fairly certain this person was able to kick me from the server despite not being admin. The moment I went back on to her ship to troll her back I got booted off the server with out a message like an admin would do.

I've never been so disgusted by a server before. I thought ilovebacon was bad but jeez this server took the cake. Had nothing but several people trying to steal.

On top of heavily customized players stay away from this server:
sb.outbreakgaming.co.uk

Do NOT let anyone from there on your ship they will corrupt it.

In other words be wary of who you meet online. I even had a dude turn my character nude just by touching me and applying a wet status effect. I even asked another modder about this who is in this community of custom stuff and said there are several people who can kill you at any time despite pvp being enabled or not.

Edit: If you make custom stuff yourself that can drop on death and you don't want anyone else to have it watch out. It seems to me that some people almost kill on site if they know you have cool stuff. Watch out because it doesn't matter what protections the server has.

This will help some things.
WARNING: DO NOT CHANGE HEALTH VALUES.
If you make it higher you will have infinite health and be in a constant loop of instant death the moment you go out of admin mode. Only fix is starcheat.
Work in progress protection armor:

/spawnitem perfecthead 1 '{"shortdescription":"God Armor","description":"Armor of the Gods!","rarity":"Essential","statusEffects":[{"baseMultiplier": 100,"stat":"powerMultiplier"},{"amount":9.9e+37,"stat":"maxEnergy"},{"amount":9.9e+36,"stat":"maxHealth"},{"amount":9.9e+90,"stat":"protection"},{"amount": 99999999,"stat":"maxEnergy"},{"amount":99999999,"stat":"maxHealth"},{"amount": 99999999,"stat":"protection"},{"amount":1,"stat":"paralysisImmunity"},{"amount":1,"stat":"freezeImmunity"},{"amount": 1,"stat":"lavaImmunity"},{"amount":1,"stat":"poisonImmunity"},{"amount":1,"stat":"tarImmunity"},{"amount":1,"stat":"breathProtection"},{"amount":1,"stat":"gOdMoDe7"},"energyregen","regeneration4","shieldregen","antidote","nofalldamage","liquidimmunity","thorns","dontstarve","lightaugment3","invulnerable","regenerationaugment3","healingwater","wellfed","swimboost","jumpboost","runboost"]}'

type: /admin in single player then copy and paste the code. The type /admin to go back to normal.

Getting this mod helps: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=733032512&searchtext=no+clip

Mainly for it's no clip. People can't fling you across the server like a jerk. They can't much of anything to you really if you have no clip on.

The amount of precautions I had to take is a joke just to stop trolls. Don't tell me not to post names. ilovebacon is cancer.

WARNING: DO NOT. I REPEAT DO NOT LET ANYONE HOLD YOUR CUSTOM ITEM. They can scan them and make a duplicate just by holding the item. If someone asks to see the item to try it out do not hand it over.
You cheeky little ♥♥♥♥♥: RexmecK Item Editor Mod <---Beware

I had two people so far. One I denied because it sounded fishy, but the other probably scanned all my stuff even though he seemed like a good person.

I just had a guy that took the item out of my hand. It was my held item. He/she could have also deleted it also instead of taking it. Make sure you have copies of things.

I think you should "scout" it first. Get all custom stuff into a shiplocker/secret stash on some planet. Then beam to their ship with, say, 1 weapon, so if they kill you, you don't lose anything expensive. I think it's 90/10 her bad behaviour/your trusting behaviour. Also, maybe ask others about the ones you are trading with.
Anyway, never trust everyone, because there are people who shouldn't be trusted.

I've already taken several steps to fight things like this.

1. Completely barren ship. Nothing to steal in the first place. Even the background. GG
2. Only carry stuff in your main bag. You don't drop those on death. Only health items.
3. Fill up your inventory with stuff so you can't pick stuff up.
4. When in doubt log off and go admin mode offline.
5. Offline storage center and base hub world.

I go from server to server inviting randoms to trade so I can get trades. I don't have that much time to background check people.

Nice.

I suggest editing out the server name, naming and shaming is generally frowned upon.

I also recommend a casual character for servers.
Craftyjumper Feb 21, 2017 @ 1:12pm
There are certain servers out there that dont really allow this to occur. The Star-bound serves these days are basically a random mix of chaos, and order, sometimes both (Controlled chaos). Other times there are servers that dont allow mods and are really strict, highly controlled ones, and the rest of the time are not so strict and allow mods, chaos influenced ones. The good way to sift through this is to read through there descriptions, comments, etc. Or use a useless character and explore the server for a few hours until you know for sure you can go on safe and sound.

Or you know, start your own server, make your own rules, etc.
Maybe that guy just somehow haxorized dem admin mode on himself, so he could do the admin sutff

What he told about up there is GTA online in a nutshell...

Met another uber modded person today. Killed me instantly with status effect garbage. Good thing I kept nothing of worth he can take.

I've already traded with a few dozen people. I've noticed most are great. Only the extremely modded ♥♥♥♥♥ are the ones that have the ability to kill you and are basically nothing but trolls. It's a recurring pattern too. They do nothing but want to show off what they have and troll you. They act like children. They also like to horde things so they can feel like a special snow flake. And they have an elitist attitude. It's pretty pathetic.

Can't wait to spread around all the custom items I have for free to end this. But for now i need to stock pile more. I bite my thumb at this prissy little community of jerks who think they are better then everyone else.

"naming and shaming is generally frowned upon."

that kind of attitude allows this bs to flourish

much like roaches, they'll scurry away when you shine a light on them

I'm glad others agree. I could name, names. As I'm sure the two cocky ass hats i met are prominent members of there community, but I wont. I will however say ilovebacon and the other server I listed are pure cancer if you aren't in there little group of popular kids.

I'm full Single-Player myself, so I won't ever be running into this kind of thing.

This is one of the reasons why the only multiplayer I'll do, are MMORPGs where this kind of crap CAN'T happen without bans,a nd nobody wants to be banned in a game where you pay a monthly subscription lol. And also, I'll do MP with people I actually know. No strangers.

Well it's not rampant on ever server. I went onto 3 different RP servers to trade where role play is strict. They were very nice and there was no chaos ensuing. It was pleasant actually but typing every non roleplay word with ((text goes here)) is a pain in the ass.

Roleplaying is already a pain, it took at least 3-5 minutes to get 1 response. . .Sometime the person you are roleplaying with is literate, took more than 5 minutes for him/her to complete. . .Don't get me started about COMBAT

I don't trust many Starbound servers either, due to the fact that they are poorly moderated and most of the time admin don't give a crap and just RNG the verdict.

When it comes to trading drawables, I only use my casual character to trade. If they are like "NOWNOWNOWNOW" or threat then simply say no, because you have to switch to safe character before procceding :)
