How to duplicate an item the easy way?

Is there a way to duplicate an item that is fast and easy? Specifically for items not in the vanilla game.

Only way I can think of involves backing up your data, then transferring item to someone then reloading the previous save. Looking for a easier way to do it not involving files.

No one cares.

In Starbound's case, it's plausible (after all, the developers did make those cheaty methods available).

Furthermore, this is better than just asking for someone to cheat for you, or otherwise offer cheats (like on Terraria).

Well I've beat the base game 600 hours ago 4 times. I'm done with vanilla.

Yup, then cheating is arguably ok. My despise regarding cheats comes from people cheating when they barely played the game in hand.

The only easy way that I know of is doing what you are doing already. It doesn't look easy to have a clone of a pet otherwise...

Yes, the simplest method would probably be backing up your ship folder, picking up the pod, then replacing your ship folder so that the only item removed (the capture pod) is replaced while you still hold a duplicate.

Or you could try finding another one of these creatures and capturing it.
