Playing Older Versions?
I was just wondering if it's possible to play older versions of Starbound.

Sometimes I just miss the old days of Starbound with the old melee weapons and guns. I wish there would be a way to switch between versions.

If you have bought a legitimate copy of starbound i think you're legally entitled to torrent older versions.

It doesn't work that way.

In the eyes of the law thats no different than buying a disk then going to the store and just taking another one disk without paying.

well? :)

anyway of going back to the old days of higher jumps and NOT that delightfully smart touch based damage that isn't just torrenting the games older versions?

I do enjoy being able to play my instruments though many things like sitting, examining, sleeping, warping and even dying because the old toolbar slots acted like slots.

i guess also the 3d printing method made you appreciate each object as you see if the ship can destory it for 3d printing instead of just click click click click click click meh...next area.

Um, yes you are allowed to torrent games you already own. No it's not like going into a store, buying one copy, taking another, and walking out. The first thing is that one involves theft of a physical copy, the other would involve copyright infringement and piracy of one copy if you didn't own the game. How can one pirate something they own?

What the heck gave you the idea you're allowed to pirate something you own a copy of? And I know its not the same but legally it is. You pirate a game you're downloading a copy of the game that you do not own and that is illegal. I personally don't understand that, but the law is the law.

"You pirate a game you're downloading a copy of the game that you do not own and that is illegal"

Contridiction, I specifically said you own the game. Besides, I said "how can one pirate something you alread own."

Wtf? Thats not what I meant. By that I mean you do not own the exact copy that you are downloading. You are downloading an illegal copy, doesn't matter if you own a copy on steam/gog.

Let's look at this logically, if you torrent a copy of a game, completely ignore the CD Key in the readme, and enter the CD key you own, is it still piracy?

Edit, sorry for the misunderstanding btw.

plot twist: this type of piracy could be avoided if there was easy access to older versions.

would be nice to play the older versions.
but if the devs don't
the bay does.

And besides, if that were true, that I cannot legally download copies of games I own, why does Steam allow me to download as many copies as I want on as many machines as I want, as long as it's my account. You see, I (the account) owns the game, therefor I am allowed to download as many copies as I want for my personal use. Steam is just the distribution platform, and the EULAs don't mention distribution platforms ever.

Yes. And ok, sorry if my tone seemed aggressive. I've looked into this myself because I thought of that exact idea awhile back. It's still illegal simply because the copy of it is illegal. For whatever reason it's almost like stealing a car and using your key for it except a minor version of it. I don't understand the logic really but I guess it has something to do with rights for digital items are still pretty weird considering things like steam are actually still pretty new.

You're allowed to download the copy you own. You're downloading the same copy over and over from the steam servers. Well I guess if you really think about it we are all downloading the same copy over and over. But I don't decide the law, I just follow it and question it constantly.

What makes the copy illegal? The fact that it's on The Pirate Bay? There are many things on TPB that are legal, believe it or not. Don't ask me to look it up though. It's not that I wouldn't find it, it's that I don't want my ISP to see "ThePirateBay" lol. If it's because the files came from someone who didn't purchase the game, one could argue that somewhere along the line the files came from a legit copy. You cannot just produce them out of thin air.

Edit, see what I mean, steam censors TPB.
