Does Rank Matter?

(Bofore i start, please don't make the overwatch meme 'rank doesn't matter') *Ahem* The crew memebers always seem, weak. And i have some pretty good rank people. But they don't seem to have changed. Does rank change anything?

If you go out with soldiers it boosts your damage output. They may have weak weapons but they are real tanks.

I kinda wish they do abit more, the medics do very little healing or defend themselfs, soldiers and outlaws do low dps and chemists like do pretty well, but they can't defend themselfs.

Could anyone else answer my question instead.

I'm pretty sure ranks are merely there for flavor - they have no impact on crew performance as far as I can tell.

This must have changed since there was a massive difference between rank 1 and rank 6 before. As in rank 6 being extremely damage resistant while rank 1 dying in 2 attacks at most.
