NEED HELP- game wont launch due to ddfix.ini error
only recently have i been having issues with Thief Gold. it usually works perfectly fine, although starting a week ago, every time i try to launch it, an error message pops up saying "Resolution in cam.cfg does not match that given in ddfix.ini"

can someone please help me?

Yes... install Tfix[www.ttlg.com]. DDfix is like 8 years old now.

For extra safety - turn off Steam for the time of installation and disable automatic update for it - it won't stop Steam from downloading new version (yeah, right - like this ever is going to happen with Square Enix only carrying about NuThief now), but at least you'll get a noticed about an "update", when you try to run it.

is there anyway to fix this without installing other programs?

Just edit cam.cfg and ddfix.ini so the resolution matches again then?
Anyway DDfix was an unofficial patch already so I don't quite get why you don't want to install a more recent one.

i ended up installing Tfix after a couple days of thinking. the reason i didnt want to install it was because Google Chrome is seriously ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up on my computer, and spends about 30 seconds loading a new tab before crashing

thankfully, however, i was able to copy/paste the link from GC after opening the Tfix link above and paste it into Internet Explorer. i played for about 5 minutes to make sure it worked, and i as amazed; not only did it FINALLY work after weeks of some .ini file, i noticed that there was a logo animation of Eidos and that the animations in the menu screens didnt lag and slow down every time i moved the mouse

anyways thanks for the help!:physgun::gordon:

HECK YES:sentry:
Really simple way for anyone who doesn't want to download Tfix: go to Program Files>Steam>SteamApps>common>thief_gold>THIEF_no_ddfix. After reading this post, I did some poking around in the game folder and came across this. Run it and it should work perfectly, without the error.

no unicorns for you.
Reasons not to use TFix:

Minor AI issues

Nostalgia?

This progream worked for me and resolved the same issue. Thanks for the link!
It might be 10 years too late, but I figure if I experienced this problem these days, I might not be the only one. I just fixed the problem by opening the “properties” page for the game in steam, clicked “installed files”, then there is a button that says “Verify integrity of game files”. I checked the files and it said 2 files failed to validate and will be reacquired, then booted the game up and it worked fine.
that 800x600 resolution sure must look splendid on a modern screen. good job!
