Drake Sword?
So I keep reading about the Drake Sword being a great early weapon, but I can't seem to kill the dragon's tail. I put about 90 large arrows into it and it never died. How many arrows does it take to kill this thing?

You need to shoot the dragons tail when you are underneath the bridge. It should take about 20 arrows to do it. Shooting the dragon itself will yeild you nothing.

What Lemon said. Try aiming for the tip, it makes it easier once you get the waving motion down.

If it only takes about 20 arrows I must be doing something wrong. I'll try again with a crossbow I just found. Thanks for the help.

Also bare in mind, your aim is not to kill the dragon, but to deal a substantial amount of damage to the tail. Eventually, you will be notified that the sword was added to your inventory, when said damage has been dealt.

Crossbow can't be aimed, has to be with a bow.

Putting aside how to acquire it...

Don`t use Drake Sword. It teaches bad habits, sharply drops in usefulness once you hit Blight Town and leaves you without a good weapon since you haven`t been upgrading another one.

It`s one of the worst weapons in the game.

hghwolf is right. Listen to him.

If you really need the drakesword be sure to have enough dex to be able to use the shortbow properly. You'll know you have hit the tail when the dragon starts flying across the bridge. This is annoying but after about 20 arrows it's done.

But remember, don't forget to upgrade other weapons because the drakesword will be absolutely useless in Sen's Fortress (like hghwolf said it will become increasingly useless at Blighttown)

What he said. Worked for me and someone mentioned timing. You should notice some blood splatter and the dragon complaining when your arrow hits. No blood + no roar = a miss.

Check the dex. You can shoot dragons tail for eternity with no result and 1-2 points of damage, if you have less dex than bow requires. And the dragon will splatter blood, complain and fly to bridge.

I hate the drakesword. My first playthrough I got it and it sucked right after capra demon. I would recommend a claymore for beginners because its movesets are ideal for longer range hits. Just upgrade it to +5 or something and it should be great.

Getting claymore is simple just run on the bridge with the hellkite red dragon and grab it. One in every playthrougho nly and its one of the better movesets in the game.

one-hand R-2 Claymore owns PvE most times.

Dont know why everyone hate it so much... nice weapon for starter areas, for many builds better weapons come later and you use them later. Drake can save you some souls and titanite from some ♥♥♥♥ longsword upgrading or something like that..

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think one of the advantages of the Drake Sword is that, unlike many weapons, its power doesn't scale with your stats. So I if you're not investing in STR or DEX early in the game, you will benefit greatly from the Drake Sword. However, as you progress in the game, it will slowly become obsolete so you'll have to invest in a better weapon.

Voiddp, you forgot to say what to upgrade it you need 10k souls, good amount for begginer
voiddp Nov 13, 2012 @ 11:23am
why anyone would want to upgrade it? O_o
its nice because its raw damage is on level with some +10 simpler weapons. So u just use it until your stats scaling starts to matter and than throw it in blackhole box and forget... of course you don't upgrade it
