spear +10--->moonlight butterfly horn; questions

I'm a bit confused about weapons upgrades. I read that in order to make the moonlight butterfly horn I would need a +10 spear or rapier class weapon. I figured that the easiest, cheapest way would be to just raise the weapons lv to +10 standard using titanite shards and large titanite shards. After I raised my spear to +5 I saw no way to raise it another lv outside of assending it which puts it back to lv 0 on whatever path you choose. I ended up waisting a bunch of shards and running back and forth between Undead Parish and New Londo Ruins trying to figure this out and am still unclear. Now my spear, instead of +5 standard is +5 magic and I am lost. Plz help...
I actually wouldn't mind reverting it back to +5 standard if I could use the large titanite shards to get it up to +10. I just need to figure out how to accomplish this. I don't feel like having to farm the next tier of green titanite to get it to +10 :P

You need the Large Ember to ascend a weapon to from +5 to +10. You'll need the Very Large Ember if you ever want to take a weapon from +10 to +15.

Right. Large Ember can be found in a chest in the Depths near the first butcher and her dog.
Very Large Ember can be found in the New Londo Ruins in the area with the Dickwraiths.

Take these to Andre, and a new option will appear to "Modify Weapon". Here you can ascend your weapon to +6, after which you can upgrade via the original option from +6 to +10. To upgrade to +11, give Andre the Very Large Ember and again go to "Modify Weapon."

easiest way to get it is just to revert the lightning spear you get back from sen's fortress to spear+10

thx, I had an extra spear and just upgraded it to +10 standard but I'll be sure to file that info away, always good to have plenty of options. so any idea who actually upgrades the +10 to moonlight butterfly horn? I'm at the blacksmith in undead parish and don't see any options in the menus

It is the blacksmith in Anor Londo. He does all the special weapon upgrades.
