How to dodge Artorias crouch leap attack?
Sometimes I get the timing right, and then sometimes I fail horribly. When do I roll? I have been rolling backwards half a second after he jumps into the air with varying success.
If I mess up the timing I die. SL1 btw. How do I dodge it? It's the ONLY attack I can't dodge..

never roll backwards to begin with... his sword range is big so it isn't a matter of timing. I suggest rolling right the moment he is in the air

Roll right at the moment when he's about to hit the ground. Use the roll's invincibillty frames. It's his easiest attack to dodge, imho. It's also the safest attack to get a good hit in afterwards. So pray he does it often, if you're low level. Doing a low level, no heal, no block, Red Tearstone run on him myself. I have more problems with his regular stab attack, the one where he's simply quickly stabbing straight and not charging across the room. That thing has almost no build-up and ridiculous reach.

Side roll shortly after jump. This was one of the easiest for me to dodge as well but I got the feeling the timing might change slightly when he's buffed.

This. Use those invincibility frames, they're your second best damage mitigation mechanic, and the best if you aren't using a shield.

And Dark Souls is really picky about dodge timing, so basically you want to dodge at the last second, and preferably to the side, just to be safe. I personally like to dodge to the left and circle around him left, it feels more comfortable

I dodge the second he reaches the peak of his jump.
If youre still getting hit, try moving one direction, and dodging the opposite way when he reaches the peak. He'll miss you by miles, but it will be harder to get a hit in as well. Good luck.
