Why does everyone use the halberd?
I've been watching people play this game for a LONG time, and most of them use the halberd. I have to wonder why. It looks really slow, and doesn't hit too hard. Is there a special reason why?

Not sure, I haven't used it yet.

I used it lots in Demons Souls, but it was a kick ass weapon in that game.

Black Knight Halberd? If so that thing kills things pretty good and has a long reach. Upgrade it to 5+ and the damage it deals get good enough.

In normal game mode I kill most normal enemies in one hit. The more powerful ones can take 2 hits and some rare ones like Royal guard take 3.

the halbeard is a great weapon for pve in early stages of the game. (till anor londo I believe)

It's not really that slow. It has good range, and more damage than spears. It also has a pretty good moveset. The 2HR2 hits twice, and it's easy to trick backstab fishers with it in pvp.

If it's Crystal, there you go, It's powerful.

All halberd type weapons are great. You get almost the same damage as a heavy weapon, almost the range of a spear while maintaining the ability to hit multiple foes side to side and almost the speed of a straight sword. In addition they scale with Dex and Str and look awesome.

It does the job quite fine in Anor Londo. You might have to get a bit too behind the Royal Guards but you kill them in 3 hits which is nice.
Silver knights die in 2 hits or rather you deal like 90% damage on them with a fully upgraded one.

But you could just parry several enemies there.

Also I like the Running + Powerful attack move.

Pff. Great Scythe, while the base damage is lower, can be acquired much earlier and getting it is not luck based. It`s customizable, scales much better, has less requirements (32 Str ? yeah good luck with that), bleeds the target and outranges the BKH by a fair margin.
meh the halberd is prefered due to the fact that it A: has great range B: has great damage and C: can be riposed at a distance and still be able to not be parried. I use a halberd personally, i upgraded it to a raw halberd +5 and i have used it almost since i got it. I am gonna have to change to a new weapon soon to due to the fact that i need something with a bit more damage.

I see, I suppose most of the people I have seen with it ARE pre-anor londo, but almost every one of them used the halberd and I wondered why, since I always lean towards katana myself

I'm also a samurai myself , but the hallberd is a really good weapon when you know what you're doing and rarely miss , spears and hallberds are very good in Pve , less so in PvP because they are more predictable and let you open to backstabs more easily when you miss

I'm enjoying my Lifehunt +4 a lot, but I keep my uchi +10 around because I'm just so used to it's moveset and as a backup "oh crap better head to a smith to repair" weapon.

No it was an amazing chest idea. By the time my weapon is toast so is my patience as well. I'm old, man. This game took two decades to come out, rage face.
