How do I get to the painted world

You need to return to the Undead Asylum where you started and go back to your starting cell. Inside will be the Peculiar Doll. Pick it up and then head to Anor Londo. Inside the building to the left (when walking up the main runway heading to the castle) is a giant painting guarded by a bunch of dudes in white. Go up to the painting and examine it and it will suck you in. Be ready, the painted world is a fairly hard area and it's very difficult to leave after you enter.

Incase you don't know how to return to the Undead Asylum (aka the tutorial area). You need to ride the elevator from Firelink up to the Undead Parish, then jump off onto the platform right as it is ascending (just start walking into the gates iside the elevator after they close and you will fall onto the right platform), walk over to the right and then take a running jump onto the support beam of one of the broken building in Firelink, climb all the way up the building to the top and find the nest of the bird that carried you here. Curl up into a ball in the nest and wait for about 30 seconds. The bird will then take you back to the Undead Asylum.

personally i think its easier to roll onto the pillar then do a running jump.

That works too. I prefer the running jump because it gives me a bit more room for error. To each his own though.

Exactly. I tried to only say exactly what was neccessary and no more. I figure the reason he asked here instead of looking at a walkthru was because he didn't want to spoil the game.
