What's the point of the jump attack?
It doesn't seem to do more damage. Does it just have a longer reach or something?

It makes you look cool

Jump attacks are completely unparryable, they can allow you to deal damage to heavily armored enemies without having your weapon deflect off them, the armored boars for example, jump attacks are the best way to kill them with melee. You can also do a jump attack while under the effects of tranquil walk of peace and your movement will be unhindered.

What ARF said.

However, most Dark Souls players not even know much about R2 attacks trying them then deeming them useless and for VERY good reason.

I hope R1's in Dark Souls II much LESS useful and R2's become much MORE useful(I'd like vary attacks w/o getting killing kthxbai). Same reason DEX >>>>>>> STR weapons.

Awww shh don't say that. Lots of weapons have awesome R2 attack. Large club, Great Scythe, gargoyle's halberd, greatsword types (get killed more than I'd like by the ridiculous 2h R2 of the man-serpents in pvp ><) ... and those are just my favorites. There are potentially more that can be very useful.

There's lots of usefulness to R2 attacks I agree that some weapons have rather lackluster R2 but several are incredibly useful.

The longsword for one is amazing with its R2. Also the balder side sword would not be as popular if it didnt have its bomb ass long range double poke R2. Many weapons also use alternate attacks like sweeps or thrusts that give the weapon added utility for certain situations. I use R2 quite frequently.

Jump attack exists so you can have even more reach on the Great Scythe.

Other weapons ? What are those ?

Seconded. I used it all the time in my first playthrough. Just the fact that you cover a lot of ground in no time and you break cover at the same time makes it *very* useful, and if you don't have the Rusted Iron Ring in the swamps it's a life saver.

Sometimes, using your jump attack will allow for a oneshot kill when other weapons would simply be unable to, my build has this happening with a few, awkward enemies....

Namely Darkwraiths.

My personal favorite lesser-known attack is the B-RB combo, against parry-fishers. He parries, anticipating an attack, you jump back instead and whack him during the recovery animation, got a couple kills that way.

Thanks for the info everyone.

I've been using that for a while now, awesome weapon. I've been doing the jumping stabby attack just for fun and now I finally know what it actually does!
