Going hollow (lore question) (Spoilers?)
Hello, I have a questing about "Going hollow"

Why the people that goes hollow in-game turns crazy aside me? Also, why they go hollow?

I mean, the pyromancies guy, Big Hat Logan, the crestfallen warrior at the start of the game, all of them when go hollow turn crazy (and off course, they try to kill me). Why I'm not "crazy" like them when I go hollow (actually, most of the time).

Also why I can still talk with the undead merchants? Of course they are crazy but they don't try to kill me.

That question bothers me. I hope anyone knows the answer.

One goes hollow when one loses his or her will to live. Logan hits a dead end after forging Crystal spells, the pyromancer witnesses a much greater pyromancy than he could ever achieve, Siegmeyer is being helped too much and he feels that adventuring is not fit for him anymore etc.
In short, they get depressed.

Undead merchants, well, they are merely undead while hollow but their greed is probably the one thing still keeping them somewhat sane.

The player wont go hollow, because well... the devs can't do that. Imagine that if you after the 48th try at a certain boss you nearly got him down, and on the 49th respawn you go hollow and the game is locked from you. And every player plays the game for different reasons, so there would be countless amount of things that can make the player go hollow, and the game should be able to tell what that is.

Think about it this way: the point when you give up on playing the game, that is the point your character going hollow.

Good question, I always wondered about this as well. Thanks for the answers.

Thought of that too, but didn't really bother to write it down. Definitely would be worth to make note if that character would somehow manifest itself automatically in another player's game tho. After a certain amount of time would have lapsed... and if certain conditions would be met, so that it won't be on an important character or by complete surprise.

Thank you very much for you answers.

One last question: Solaire goes hollow too?

He indeed aquires his dream, he is crazy and can talks to you, is like a first stage of going hollow?

Yes, when you find him with the sunlight maggot in lost izalith, he is not actually hollow, but maybe slowly losing his sanity. You can think that you were able to free him before hollowing.

That would be pretty awesome.

If you take the shortcut through Izalith and kill all- AKK 8 maggots, then solaire will not lose sanity and will actually help you fight Gwyn! My theory is that, the player is the Chosen Undead, exempt from the normalcies of hollowness Destiny is a large factor in the game... The player's is to not become a hollow...mute....lunatic... (Thumbs for Portal 2 reference?)

Logan technically doesn't go hollow, as he is still in human form when you fight him. He just goes crazy after trying to figure out everything about the crystal magic and ends up getting buttnaked so he could be more like Seath the scaleless. Same with solaire, except he gets latched onto a shiny parasite.

Feel free to correct me though.

It's highly implied that the player is the special "Chosen" undead, capable of coming back after death repeatedly and being immune to hollowing.

If you notice, once others die, they're GONE. But you come back repeatedly.

I think it might have something to do with the Bonfires, the Darksign, and you being a descendant of the Pygmy, but I don't know enough about the lore yet to really pinpoint the specifics.

Yeah, they've just gone insane. Logan went nuts because he immersed himself in Seath's derranged research. Solaire went nuts because he believed that he had found his own personal sun.

If you wanna look at the "Going hollow" thing more in depth, you can find some VERY interesting things about some NPCs. Like Havel the Rock. He was one of Gwyn's most trusted companions. But he seemed to have discovered something about Gwyn that drove him mad and led to him being locked up in the tower. Where you find his armor, you'll also find an Occult Club. Occult weapons are used for killing Gods! Havel discovered something that was driving him to rise up against Gwyn, but shattered his sanity enough that he went hollow before he could. Crazy, huh?

As for the player character, the chosen undead...we don't know how much of it is actually "chosen", or just that the character is just the most persistent and lucky undead out of there that managed to go through everything till the end. The flow of time in Lordran is warped also, so no one know how many "chosen" undead there are in all the multiple time lines crossing each others.

Maybe just maybe the "Chosen" Undead is a special type of Crazy.

Considering you can slaughter everything in your sight, including peaceful NPCs, as you wish, that is not out of the question.

Furthermore, isn't the whole "Chosen One" story mainly pushed by Frampt? And if we're gonna believe the Marvelous Chester, those primordial serpents will say anything to manipulate humans for whatever agenda they have.
