Dark Souls Sif Lag
Hello Dark Souls community.

My friend recently (finally) bought the game and has been having some trouble when fighting creatures with large amounts of hair. Lag problems. It started with the giant rat miniboss in the catacombs and has extended itself to the fight with Sif, which is now unplayable. Has anyone else experienced this, and have any possible solution?

(PS: He's using DS Fix, of course, is there anything we can tweak in the .ini?)

The game is famously bad with particle effects (explosions, fire, fog gates), but I never heard it getting specifically bad with such thing. What's his average framerate? CPU/GPU?

Also, is that a millionaire Sif you're wearing for a profile pic? :O

I'd recommend trying to do range attacks so your not so close to Sif. It should help with framerate issues

He doesn't have Fraps to benchmark, but he gets kicked out for low framerate during the fight. Other than that, it appears to be playable in all other areas so far.

He has a Radeon HD 4600 and an i5 and 4 GB of ram.

And no, sadly its just a dog I found on 4chan. Hopefully someone more artistically inclined will stumble upon this thread, because that sounds like a great idea.

He tries ranged attacks, but Sif always gets too close to him eventually, at which point he has framerate difficulties.

Wow, Steam censores "4chan"? O_O Welcome to the New Internet Dictionary.

Anyway, back to the issue: How does it look in Blighttown? New Londo Ruins? Demon Ruins? Those are the places I can think of that eat up resources like crazy. If he gets the same kind of crazy dips in those, then it might just be a hardware problem, maybe he's just hovering around the lowest acceptable framerate in "regular" areas and he drops below to unplayable once things get really heavy. That video card, while not bad, is sort of the bare minimum to run the game -DS is a very poorly optimized game, unfortunately.

Also, I understand the game is especially bad at getting along with ATI hardware, so he might wanna check out the DSFix forums for more GPU-specific advice: forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/786338-dsfix/

Some net neutrality. How about four-chan?

He's actually doing the depths right now but was getting frusturated so I advised him to take a break fighting Sif. If he can't get through Blighttown, that'd be some trouble.

Try enabling 60fps mod
Also the dog on your picture appears to be a corgi with glasses.

There's the winner.

60 FPS mod is already enabled, it was one of the first things I had him do. He's probably just going to have to buy some new components, unfortunately.
