Noob Help - What happens when I die a second time?
Here's my question. I'm trying desperately to defeat Taurus Demon, and each time I face off against him, I die. Each time I go back, there's a little puddle that I can collect, that gives me back all my souls and humanity (not that it's worth much, as I die a few seconds later).

On one run, I decided to play around a bit, and I died BEFORE I reached the Demon. I got a different death animation, and when I respawned, I saw a new puddle, at the new spot I died. I picked up the puddle, went to fight the Demon and........there was no old puddle. No old puddle of 12k souls.

So, if I'm right, if I die BEFORE I go reach a puddle (whatever that's called), then the NEW spot I die, erases the previous puddle...?

Thanks in advance! :D

Yep, that's pretty much how it works. Try not to die twice in a row without recovering that! The puddle is, I believe, a bloodstain btw. Also, the death animation isn't really different because you died before reaching the old bloodstain, but probably just that you died to a different thing.

They're called "Bloodstains" and yes if you die before you collect them however many souls and humanity you had on you is gone forever. The stop where you died is where the new one will be.

Well that sucks. o_O

Thanks for the reply...Good to know early on! I'll be a little more careful (I was being stupid and trying to get to a different part of the Burg when I died).

Also, I have like ten Titanite shards in my inventory. Can I use those now, or am I saving them for later...? I couldn't find anything at a bonfire for upgrading weapons. Don't spoil anything, just let me know if I should keep lugging them around! :D

It shouldn't take you long to get to the Blacksmith.

Wow, I feel like a right idiot now. I was getting fed up with the Burg, so I backtracked towards the Firelink...and saw the *path* that I had missed before, leading to New Londo. I can't believe I missed that. -_-

Hopefully my newly reinforced weaponry will make the Demon a bit easier. :D

Word of warning, stay the hell out of the rest of New Londo for now. Ghosts... aren`t fun to fight.

Sure they are.

Thanks for the warning! I appreciate it. :D I'll go romp around a bit in the Burg for now.

Souls are important in the game, but don't worry much when you lose it because you'll eventually gain more souls further in the game until you don't know what to do with that many souls.

Definately don't go to New Londo this early, there are a bunch of areas you should explore in the opposite direction before you go down there. The Taurus Demon is nothing compared to what you'll find in New Londo.

You can also purchase an item that will allow you to repair weapons at any bonfire. I won't tell you what merchant or the name of the item but if you are hanging around in the burg you should find it soon enough.

The Taurus Demon seems tough on the first go, but just remember to make use of your surroundings and it shouldn't take too long to figure out the strategy to beat him. Happy Dying!

do not listen to those cowards and go to new londo if you use special item you can kill ghosts and farm for weapon which can hurt ghosts or you must be special state and see on your own if you can or not to go there, if you wish use titanit shards do it u get more on right place, you dont need keep big sum of souls just level up

Thanks guys! I'm really enjoying Dark Souls so far, which is odd, because I don't usually like overtly hard games. I also picked up some other kind of titanite (It's magical or something...? It's blue and glows), but the New Londo blacksmith didn't offer to use it. I'm sure I'll eventually work out how to use it later. :D

Also, a quick question on humanity -- it affects my loot drops, is that right? So like, once I've used a bonfire to un-hollow myself, the more humanity I collect, the better my loot? Thanks again guys. :D
MrFloobis Dec 11, 2012 @ 3:49pm
The more humanity you have on the higher your drop rate will you get. However as you hold more, the amount that it'll increase by will decrease untill you have 10, where it will no longer increase. It will also inrease your resistances slightly.

You might already know this, but regaining your humanity at a bonfire will also allow other players within 10 levels of you to invade your world and kill you. You can only be invaded in an area where you have not defeated the boss yet and it seems to happen at the worst possible time. You can also summon people in to your world to help with a boss fight if you are human and with the right item (I wont't say which) you can let people summon you into their world for help.

Thanks Dale. Also, I found the item you were talking about -- I just need to save up a few more souls to buy it. :D
