Crystal weapons... recommended?
Hello everyone

I'm here just to make a simple question.
I'm trying to make a sorcerer build, and I would like to make a crystal wep, but which one?
I thought to upgrade the Uchigatana but it would be really annoying to go repairing again and again...
So that's my question, Which wep should I upgrade to crystal?

Before anything sorry for my english and thanks.

You do realize that crystal weapons can only be repaired through upgrades. If you do choose to go crystal, make sure you carry multiple of them. Also, uchi is a very poor choice as crystal weapons have 1/10 durability.

You would have maybe 8-10 hits and then the weapon would be broken, definately a bad choice for crystal. Why crystal anyway? It's so much better just to run it up the normal path and upgrade DEX for the scaling.

Have an epic duel, opponent wins by a hairbreadth... then they realise your soul level 12- while they are SL 100+. Send them a message "♥♥♥♥!!!!! YOU GOT HEAPS OF SOULS OFF MY OVERLEVELED OP BUILD!!!!

‎(ノಥ益ಥ)ノ ┻━┻"

:D The best way to fail.

Although you'd have to not use black magic or hornet ring to actually acheive anything.

Just thought I'd point out that by those comments, I mean to suggest getting best damage possible at low levels, thus crystal with buff although honestly I think buff's can be pretty cheap if used with spamming weapons-uchigatana. Sorry for spamming/ranting this discussion btw.

There really are no good Crystal weapons for dex. All of the high durability weapons are str. For PvE, definitely just use normal +15. For PvP, if you do go with the crystal uchi, just raise them to +4 and be prepared to go through them like water. You'll probably spend more time farming the titanite than fighting though.
I still don't really see the point of using crystal weapons. They are good to kill somethings faster at the beginning of the game depending of your build, but to maintain them as your main weapon is kinda weak, imo at least.

They're just a straight upgrade from normal. Even at +4 they're better than +15. You really don't use much durability in pvp, so if you're willing to invest the time into farming then there's no downside to using one.

just use enchanted or magic, since your intelligence will be high from the sorcery they'll work really well, and when you get the ember make a plus 15 weapon and use crystal magic weapon on it as a buff.

They work well in PVP. VERY well. Dude came after me with a crystal shotel and needless to say in about two seconds I was dead.

Falchion's and Scimitar's are easily available in the game, just convert them to use and throw crystal weapons.

They break easy.

I always figured the whole idea behind crystal weapons is that they are meant for ''strong'' enemies (bosses/ annoying enemies / pvp ) hence their higher damage but low durability component coupled with the fact you can still resin or use sorcery on your weapon.
I'd reckon especially at the four kings boss fight squezing that every little of bit extra dps is awesome since you would want to avoid getting swarmed by 4 of em and ending the fight asap.

The whole farming process though is at it's least tedious when you're actually already at the end of the game, namely The Kiln of Flame. There you can farm the knights for 2 guaranteed chunks of titanite. Assuming that Kingseeker Frampt is avaible in your playthrough you can then keep divinding the chunks into the amounts you require.
Since 1 chunk = 3 large = 9 titanite shards.
With the amount of souls you'll be farming from that you can also just buy some shards from the blacksmiths. 800 titanite and large 3800. I wouldn't recommend it for the large ones though that really adds up. I'd say though pick 1 or 2 weapons to turn into crystal and only use them during bosses. You might also want to consider a crystal shield.
Ow and if you do go the crystal route do farm up on those chunks so you can upgrade your crystal weapons as a means to repair them before you go NG +.
Otherwise it's farming them darkwraiths.

Crystal weapons for anything but a couple select bosses --like for PvP-- really only make sense (imho) when you have an easily replaceable weapon that has high damage and high scaling to begin with, combined with high durability, and at a time when getting chunks isn;t a problem. IOW: demon great machete, demon great axe, that kind of thing. Putting it at +3 puts you close to what a +15 normal does (and better than +14 I *think), and +4 puts it over, so to get some extra life out of crystal weapns so you can get +15 type damage without using a slab by upgrading to +3, then to +4 when it's in need of repair.

But to be honest, katanas seem like about the worst thing to turn crystal. Even a shotel makes more sense: it's not used as a main weapon for the most part.

Only the Demon STR weapons are worth going Crystal, they have high durability and last a good while. Worth it for PvP, otherwise, just go +15.
