Wow really? Your copy of Dark souls must be broken because normally he can own the iron golem easily :P
That was my experience too... I ended up beating the iron golem by shooting betwen his legs and slicing away at him until he was about to slam down on me (his other attacks wouldn't touch me when I was that close), roll away, repeat.
So I heard after I started looking at some info on dark souls recently. I found just the opposite: 1st summon, Tarkus gtes thrown off the building in a matter of seconds. 2nd summon, not sure what happened, just got a message that he was vanquished about halfway through the battle as I was rolling away. Decided I was better off without him.
