Good weapon and stats for thief
So I just started playing again the game. And just created a thief, which is what I use to play and play best. But I have forgotten everything about stats! Anyone care to remind me which are the stats that I should be taking care of as a priority?
Also, weapons to PvP. which weapons should I look for PvPing. This way I make sure I have the stats when I get them.

I've never tried a Thief myself but I would imagine Dexterity should be huge, followed by points in health and then stamina. Weapons such as daggers fit the Thief mold best.

Never put points into resistence
Vit and End are good for any build
Never raise a stat over 40
look at the stat scaling for weapons you like; if it scares with dex, raise dex.

should I enchant my weapons or just keep upgrading them?

The starter weapon for the Thief the Bandit Knife is actually really good. It has good dex scaleing, great crit bonus and really good bleed build up and damage.
Though the Bandit knife is a good weapon even at end game you may want to change it up for certain bosses. Katana's are popular for there speed, damage and strike distance. The gold and Silver Tracers are great weapons but you must have the Lord Vessel to access them (DLC).
I hear it is not too popular but Priscila's Dagger is what I used against O&S with my Thief dex build. Though again alot of people prefer a katana or quelaags fury sword for dex build fights against them.

Johnana has some good tips there. If I were playing through as a thief, I would probably try and get a Katana, and eventually get it ascended into lightning or fire depending on whether you get to Vamos or the Giant Blacksmith first. On top of that I would try and get a good ranged weapon or look into getting some sorcery. But before that, in the early game, the bandit knife has great speed and can knockback most enemies, so modifying that would be wise and maybe if you happen to find the magic ember get rickert of vinheim to ascend iit into a magic/enchanted knife.

Oh, and regarding stats, I think dexterity and intelligence would be good things to focus on along side endurance and vitality. a little peppering of strength, a touch of attunement if you are going for sorcery, and maybe a pinch or two of resistence if you wanted.

Also forgot to mention that my Thief has an Ascended Pyromancy Flame and it comes in handy quite a bit. I also have four attunment slots and put on a darkmoon seance ring when I need a fifth slot (usually power within for boss fights.).

Yeah, that's the other option. Instead of upgrading intelligence, upgrading your pyromancy flame. although the one downside to pyromancy is that its range attacks require you to be in somewhat dangerously close distance from the attacker. i think sorcery would be safer for a thief who might want to reduce an enemies life as much as he could before actually entering melle attacks, although i havent actually tried a sorcery build,

hmm..but johnana makes another good point about attunement. i might have understated its importance. its a good thing to upgrade, unless your range weapon of choice is a bow and arrow.

how's it going chalax? I see you are in-game right now. which part in the game are you? have you decided what sort of build you want to do?

I'm reading your quotes and I find them quite itneresting and helpfull! thank you very much!
I just killed the gargoyles and I forgot where to go now. forest, right?
and about the weapons... I think I might be taking a bow as a ranged, and was considerign some healing spells? or maybe pyro, I am not quite sure. I want to get to a lvl to PvP though...

Although I have never beat the game before. Also, considering swords, something long idk really. but I think i am sticking with thief
Chalax Dec 4, 2013 @ 8:31pm
I just forgot what was the difference between strenght weapons and dex. dex were faster and str stornger, right? or something...

umm, after the gargoyles and the first bell of awakening, the next bell is down in blighttown after defeating the boss lady there. but feel free to roam around. the darkroot garden has some good stuff but depending on which part of it you are in things can get a little out of your league and it would be best to avoid some things and proceed with caution, as is generally the case in dark souls.

healing spells would be miracle, i think. i can't remember is there is some kind of healing sorcery. there could be, i just havent really looked into it because my current build has only base intelligence. if miracles rae the only one, i think the healing miracle requires like 18 faith level, which is sort of high unless you want to focus on miralces. if i were you i would invest souls into either healing spells vis a vis miralces or into upgrading your pyromancy flame. espeically if you want to go with a bow and arrow. the bow and arrow will lessen the need for sorcery and you dont have to stat up intelligence.

if you want a long sword, you could go for a strength/dexterity build on your thief so that you could weild something like a zweihander which has amazing range and beautiful knockback capabilities. but its heavy as ♥♥♥♥ and you need 24 strength. which you could do if you wanted but a thief is traditionally more of a dexterity heavy build whose "heavy" swords are something like the katanas which are quick and when modified/ascended can do some good damage. so, the difference between swords that focus on dexterity and swords that focus on strength are going to generally be speed vs damage. one strike of a sword like a zweihander would be equal to maybe 2-4 of a katana type sword.

pyromancy is fun and you dont need any stat levelling to invest in it. you can just buy whateve ryour heart desires from the pyromancy vendors and enjoy. granted, pyromancy can be a little bit of a pre madonna. out of all the available methods of attack, pyromancy can be somewhat slow for the high damage moves, unless your pyromancy flame itself is +10ish and then your combunstion/ great combustion does good damage and is just as quick as your katana if not a little quicker.

Stick with fast bleeding weapons (katana's) until you can get your Gold Tracer. Gold Tracer is your endgame weapon, be warned people will be pissed if you use it online because it is so beast.
