Darkroot Basin Hydra issues, anyone able to help?
Hello everyone! I recently managed to pry Havel's Ring out of the guys stoney hands, and I want to go rescue Dusk and get my hands on the Oolacile Ivory Catalyst... but that big nasty Hydra along the way is a teensy tinsy problem, and I am Level 22.

Now, if the water blast the Hydra does wasn't a thing, I'd be more confident in charging in to fight it and dying a few hundred times, but, alas, water shall be blasted, and I must look to others for assistance in removing the Hydra from our Timey-Wimey Lordran.

http://mmdks.com/4rf5 should be my current setup, not counting my item bar :P

Any tips? Any one willing to join me to kill it?

The hydra is really easy. :-)

go into the water, don't fall off the cliff. Block it s attack with your shield. hit the heads. repeat.. :-)

rush towards the right side near the water, she should stop the blizzard cast and attacks with her heads.

My way to access the Hydra is from the door behind Havel, from the Undead Burg. As for as actual Bosses I have killed, only the Taurus Demon. People have told me that normal progression would have me going to the Capra Demon in the Depths next.

if you kill havel with me, i can assist you with the hydra.
my other char at the hydra is too high for you to summon.

actually, youre wrong: running in is the only way to get close. do like this: first, kill all the golems around so they don´t bother you, do that as far away from hydra as possible. then, wait til she doesnt attack anymore and then SPRINT right into her direction, down the slope. since she will fire straight away, the shots will go over your head if you keep running down. run a few steps into the water and make sure not to fall of the ledge (underwater, you´ll see it) and here comes the trick: DON´t lock on. turn right to her, keep shield up and wait for attack. her heads will be right beside you/in front of you and you can atack her once, maybe twice if you´re fast. rinse and repeat with 3-5 heads (dpending on dmg) and there you go. hope that helps a bit.

but my small char is a little bit weak xD otherwise i wouldnt ask for havel. I think i have to backstab him about 50 times atm =D

last time i killed havel today 1 backstab did 59 dmg......took quite some time yes, but he´s SO EASY. even for total beginners. keep your shield up and ALWAYS circle to the right. if he attacks and you do it right, you end up behind him and can backstab. if he actually hits you, he will most likely break your guard and then you HAVE to roll out (again, to the right, make sure theres room) or he can oneshot you if he 2hands. but once you get the hang of it, he will NEVER hit you again ever, since you dont need reaction or parry skills to beat him. just keep walking right ALL the time :)

Fistor, I beat Havel already, I have his ring and everything. The issue is the Hydra in the Darkroot Basin behind him ._.

The Golems in the Basin, with the Hydra, do they respawn if I go to a Bonfire? Or will they be gone forever if I kill them?
fistor Nov 30, 2013 @ 4:43pm
the golems respawn. jsut try my method. it´s actually quite easy. :) you´ll see. just make sure to not fight more than 2 golems at a time and you´re good.
Dr. Gori Nov 30, 2013 @ 4:48pm
Kill all the golems, run serpentine towards the hydra and into the water. Just stand there until it does its melee, block, kill a head, repeat. Once its down to 1 or 2 heads use a bow to finish it since its too hard to bother getting all the heads and it can't hit you anyways.

You can also make the Hydra kill those Crytal Golems, by luring all of them, then getting to the Hydra's acquisition range. Those hydro pumps deal very high damage to them. Luring them is optional, but is recommended because the Hydra's missile goes towards where you are. The Hydra fight itself is easy, only problem is how to get close to it.
