Games For Windows Live DOES Not Work on Windows 8.1 Error code: 0x80096010

I give up - don't have time to figure out how to fix Microsofts debacle. Frankly, this is appalling - they need to take the game of sale - it does not work.

Tried googling - seems like there are tons of people burned by this on many games.

Can't wait for Steam box....

Soon as I saw GFWL I was like forget it... If it has EA or Microsoft on the product page you know buyer beware. Not to mention GFWL is set to be abolished in 2014. If there was a developer patch to remove GFWL and update to the PC port I might pay 5 bucks. Oh well maybe they will port them all to PS4...

Ah. It works fine on windows 7. Installing windows 8 and running older games is often difficult. If this doesn't work with windows 8 at all, there should be a sticky post at the top of the board, i guess.

I'm running 8.1. No problems at all. It definitely works so its either a faulty installation or you ♥♥♥♥♥♥ something up.

Please post links what version of GFWL you're downloading, your machine, whether you have admin control enabled or disabled.

works fine on my windows 8.1
No issues bar the cursor on screen, but working on that. Just a couple of files to fix and thats all. Not had an issue with any game that required GFWL on current version at all.

Uninstalled old GFLW
Downloaded latest GFLW at http://www.xbox.com/en-US/LIVE/PC/DownloadClient
Tried runnning "Install as Administrator".
Get Error....

I have Windows 8.1 and having the same problem. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ my ass off to figure how the ♥♥♥♥ Im gonna run GTA IV that I just bought. I really tried everything, but the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ windows live id JUST DONT INSTALL!

I installed it on windows 8.1, but the program won't launch. it says it won't connect to the internet. Saying either my internet working (which it is) or i have to allows certain ports on my router.

i have access to my router but no understanding to change port settings. I'd be grateful to any help.

I myself don't support Windows 8, but at least I don't lie.

All the games that work on Windows 7, work on Windows 8.

to install on windows 8.1:

go to add remove programs

find BOTH gfwl installs, there is Game for windows live, and Redistribute Games for windows live

Uninstall both

Now, download the latest GFWL installer

Run as admin and in compatibility mode for windows 7

will instal fine!
