Do curved swords just suck?
A lot of them have the bleed effect which is nice, but in PvE they seem almost useless because a lot of their attacks are chained and I get stunlocked when I use them. Also they don't do much damage compared to a lot of other weapons. How good are they in PvP?

i like curved weapons, they are fast hitting weapons, good for buffs, but they dont have high base damage.

Curved swords are very powerful in PVP. Falchion and gold tracer are the ones most commonly used. Falchion has very high damage for its weight and is usually paired with a buff to take advantage of its speed. Gold tracer has highest bleed buildup in game. Painting guardian sword is sometimes used due to it having the highest damage of all curved swords. Shotel is, imo, a must have for all pvpers since it can bypass shields.

You see those warriors from Hammerfell? They’ve got curved swords. Curved. Swords.

curved swords are fast. fast=better roll response
Luigi Bombolini Dec 29, 2013 @ 5:37pm
Straight swords are just as fast, have higher base damage, and have better roll response because Curved swords execute multiple chain attacks with one press and that means it's impossible to dodge when you need it. Unless I'm spamming R1 I'll have less control over what I'm doing compared to a Straight Sword. I see how this is good in PvP, but against bosses and more than one enemy it's not really all that great.

Actually only the R2 does multiple hits. The rest you can do 1 hit and roll away. Also a falchion+15 has a higher AR than a BSS+15 at 40 dex.

No, the curved swords are great, well except the scimitar that kinda sucks....

Not to mention stuff like the chaos blade or uchiganta/ katanas in general are often called tryhard weapons because of how effective they can be. Murakumo is extremely deadly with a bit of practice.

I hate facing that damn thing with someone who knows what they're doing. Every hit seems to be a dead angle, and it has a stunlock from hell.
