I haven't done a Sorcerer playthrough in a while and i can't remember if i HAVE to buy all the spells from Logan in order to get it?
If i kill him where he sits in the Duke's Archives after being free'd from the prison, will i still get it? Or do i HAVE to purchase all his spell, make him go hollow, and then kill him where i first see Seath?

I was going to link you to wikis, but noticed their information is inconsistent. This one[darksouls.wikidot.com] says you don't have to wait for him to go hollow, but these[darksouls.wikia.com] two[darksoulswiki.wikispaces.com] say you do. Now I'm curious myself.

Now that's good question, I would assume you still get it if you kill him before, you could try to backup your save and test it.

I honestly don't remember, I think you only need to buy all the spells if you want the armor set and the Logan Catalyst.

Its been a while but I remember buying all of his spells before I went up there.

Yes you have to buy all his spells in both firelink and the dukes archives, then kill seath, after that he will be in the room where you first fight seath, he willl drop the tin catalyst there along with white dragon breath.

Buying all the spells and making him go Hollow DOES mean killing him in the old Seath arena will net the TCC.

The question is if you can get it without buying out all his stuff.

Now, as to WHY you'd care about the TCC if you aren't gonna buy his stuff, I dunno. I mean, either yer a mage who sees value in the TCC, and would likely benefit off of his spells, or you are after Knight's Honor... which likely means you'll be after the three trophies for all Miracles/Pyromancies/Sorceries as well.

I was under the impression that if you kil him early you get his set and logen's catalyst.

If you kill him BEFORE he goes hollow, you get his Hat and the Tin Crystal Catalyst

you can kill him and get it off his body but you wont get the logan catalyst or the armor he has. He has to be in dukes though im pretty sure i remember killing him recently in firelink and didnt get anything.

if you kill him before you buy all of his spells while he is in dukes, BEFORE he goes hollow/and naked lol. You will get the Tin Crystal catalyst and his hat, if you buy all spells and find him in the room where you first fought seath

which also nets you white dragon breath, a funny but sorta useless spell, would be fun to use on a gank squad though, they would probebly ♥♥♥♥ their pants xD
