Demon's Great Hammer vs Club (Large/Great)
I'm trying to play relatively blind, but after finding the ring you get as gift has an incorrect description one thing lead to another and I found out about the Demon's Great Hammer.

Since it apparently gets outclassed by the large club and great club I don't really mind getting it. The problem is that it requires 46 str so it seems that by the time I'm able to use I'll have found better weapons.

Is there anything better about this than the clubs? I'm not nearly good enough at the game to play a vanity build. It does seem like it would be fun to use though. But dying a lot isn't fun.

enchanted great club with 99 str/int has the highest damage output in the entire game
Plus it's strike damage

Demon's great hammer has more dmg output with no buffs and also has better moveset than great club, large club's heavy's are faster than it so its useful for small time windows, plus large club does poison damage. Hope I helped!

Better moveset? It has exactly the same moveset as Dragon Tooth, that's 4x the same attacks with addition of standard great hammer running/rolling attacks and overall dmg is like 15ar better than large club and 10 lower than great club.

Since it's your first time playing, I would advise against trying to go for things like the Great Clubs right away. It takes fairly high stats for them to be worth using

Thanks for the responses. So the demon's great hammer has a different moveset than the clubs. I am somewhat familiar with the Dragon tooth's moveset thanks to Tin Plated's Let's Play. At least that tracking move. I think I also remember where it is, but I have a feeling it will be a long time before I get there.

I actually just found the Demon's Greataxe too. Not sure if it's any better I just looked it up and someone said the regular greataxe does better damage. And like the great club it weighs less than it's demon counterpart.

It's a shame they didn't have poise damage based on weight, but maybe also stamina drain based on weight to balance things out. I did read a comment that said the demon great hammer drained less stamina than the great club, but I would like verification before spreading any rumors.

@Vinyl Scratch: That's true, but I was planning on doing a STR build anyway. However, I also wanted to use miracles and since the clubs have significantly lower requisites than the demon weapons I was kind of torn. I'm also not sure how long I'll be able to grind out levels before they become unreasonably expensive.

When you say you want to use Miracles, are you talking offensive miracles that do damage, or just those few healing ones you can get from Petrus in Firelink?
Do you know how to even obtain offensive mircales in the game? Because they're all a bit obscure if you're new to the game.
I would advise aganst the later though, if you're only going to go for a healing miracle or 2, it's not really worth the level investment.

If you're going for a Faith/Str build, then finding a weapon with high Base Damage that you can enchant will probably work very well for you.
While it's not really a Str weapon, the Obsidian Greatsword works well, It can be enchanted with Darkmoon/Sunlight blade, and I use it on my faith character.
The Dragon King Greataxe can be enchanted as well, and has 570 base damage when upgraded.

Between the Dragon Tooth and Great Club, I'd pick the Club as it has much better scaling, and wouldn't require much level investment to be better than the Dragon Tooth. Both can be enchanted though

Depending on how much investment you put in Str, you could always go for Black Knight weapons as well. They can't be enchanted but have high base damage and stack decently with Str, so are great for just general PvE as you play.

If you want a weapon to make Divine (so that it stacks with Faith, instead of Str), I suggest the Bastard Sword. It has a simple move set, and stacks well with faith when made divine and upgraded.

Thanks for the advice. I did want to go for the stronger miracles at some point. The lightning spear would be useful. I haven't looked at the other miracles. I wanted to find them in game before I look at the wiki.

I'm not sure about swords since that requires a dex investment. If I make a divine weapon will it still scale decent with str? Otherwise I was thinking I could just go regular upgrade and use the sorcery buff since it has relatively low prerequisite. I've been using the reinforced club until I find something better. It's actually good since I don't have a lot of endurance to swing something big. I haven't found anything else worth using. I guess I'm not very far into the game.

This cleric is actually my second char. I went back to my first char because I want to progress a bit more so I have a better idea of what to do. As for the swords, I have a third char in mind that will be str/dex and pyro. Possibly some int/faith late game if there's something useful

The scaling goes down to a D in favor of a B/A scaling in Faith

I'm near the end of a Faith playthrough (currently around SL60) where I ignored strength/dex other than to meet the requirements for Gargoyle Halbard (which I took to +10 Divine). My opinion on offensive miracles is mixed. Mostly I did this playthrough to have fun co-oping as a sunbro and early game lightning spear/greater lightning spear will destroy most bosses when you're fighting with other players or npc phantoms. The cons are that I'm finding less useful against the bosses in the second half and the cast time is fairly slow if you're playing solo (making it hard to get them off). Usually you're better off just beating them with your club/sword/whatever.

The other offense miracles are more PvP related. And then there's the temporary weapon buffs which, while strong, really aren't my thing as I preferred using a Divine weapon (and my understanding is you can't put temporary enchants on weapons upgraded any way other than normal +15 path or raw).

Better weight, better stat requirements, better scaling, better moveset...i prefer the large club

Wouldn't the offensive miracles at least be helpful to make it through certain areas? Sometimes getting to the boss is almost as hard (or at least tediously annoying) as the boss itself. Also useful for farming areas which it seems I'm going to be doing a lot of. And I do want to do the faith stuff in general just in terms of roleplay.

It seems like pyro might also be something to think about. I've looked at a few of the spells, but since I don't know when I'll find the pyro flame I haven't thought about it much. I know there's a pyromancer in blighttown and also the club, but I have no idea how long I'll make it there. My first char is level 30 and I haven't really explored much beyond the Undead Parish.

Also, I read something about getting a sunspear for coop with the sun. After I fought the gargoyles with solaire (with my first char) I got a sun medal so I guess after doing coop for awhile you trade the medals in? Speaking of gargoyle, is the gargoyle axe worth going for? It looks cool at least :D

The faith buffs are pretty dope on fast weapons, but for pve they aren't all that good obviously since you'll only get one go of em. There aren't many offensive miracles, either, so they're not all that great. For co-op Heal and GHeal can be pretty good so you can keep yourself alive if host doesnt wanna estus you. Magic Barrier line can be nice for certain places, ie. Four Kings since all they do is magic damage.

PVE difficulty wise faith is probably the hardest build to do, since it's mostly support spells for co-op and such, while pyros and sorcery destroy enemies in no time.

I feel kind of the opposite, in that Faith builds make things easier.
Extra healing, good offensive miracles like WOG and Lightning, buffs to weapons, andMagic Barrier which makes even NG+7 Four Kings absolute jokes (you can take their strongest maigc attack without blocking, and only loose like...1/20th of your health

The problem with Faith comes from the limited amount of offensive spells in the first place. You only really get 3 reliable ones (the first 2 lightning and WOG), and the only one you can get more than one of is WOG, at 3 casts per playthrough. But once you get them, you can breeze through every area.

The medals will increase your rank in the 'Sunbro' Covenant -- the only tangible rewards of which are increased power lightning spears. Unless you're going full on Faith (wielding a divine weapon and such) you're probably better off just using Pyromancy (you'll have to pick Pyromancer as your starting class or else you won't get the tool to cast the spells until the first part of The Depths). What's good about pyromancy is you get a greater variety of offensive spells, some pretty handy defensive ones (like flash sweat and iron flesh), and you don't have to sink points into Faith and Int to scale up their power. All you do is pay souls to upgrade the pyromancy glove tool thingy so you're free to use your stats elsewhere.
