Port forwarding for Steamworks and GFWL fix co op and multiplayer.
I am writing this because I had a problem with the game connectivity and I fixed it by myself, there is some help on this forums but ntohing concrete and you must know a lot about networking to do it. So it is solely for searching purposes when someone has the same problem.

So if you don't see white signs or you never get invaded and no one have ever summoned you this is how you fix this. It works with Steamworks and with GFWL it doesnt matter.

1. Go to www.portforward.com and download the static ip software.

2. Run the software and make your ip static. And remember your new static ip because you will need it.

3. Go to your router settings page. Usually type the ip of the router in your browser address bar (example: 192.168.0.1) if you have trouble with that part go to www.portforward.com and look up your router. There are great tutorials on how to get to your settings page.

4. When you get to the spot where you can add ports and forward them in your setting page you need to add those ports:

53, TCP & UDP
80, TCP
88, UDP
443, TCP
3074, TCP & UDP

and forward them through your new static ip.

5. Save, run the game and be prepared I got invaded in the first minute and died a horrible death.

You have to do this because the game is old and needs static ip in order to host a p2p connection.

I hope this helps a lot of people. Basically you do the same as if you want to host a listen server for any game like Killing Floor and Half Life.

Good luck and prise the sun.

The Steam version doesn't require port forwarding if you have a router, I've been invaded with 0 ports in my router (I've since forwarded all the ones Steam suggested though, in a bid to get the Streaming service working which is an entirely different topic of discussion)

Perhaps the Steam version uses UPnP? Or some reverse look-up system to determine your proper IP/local IP.

Well I know other people with connectivity problems and this worked for them aswell. If everything works then ... better don't fix it :D

I wish it worked for me but unfortunately I had to port forward and decided to write this for future reference if anyone has the same problem and cant find the right answer through search.

Out of all the ports specified in this thread ONLY 3074 is used to make connections to other Dark Souls players and ONLY becouse that port is used by GFWL for p2p purposes. Steam uses none of those so I'd highly suggest people DON'T open them. List of ports used by Steam can be found here:

If you haven't already, please make this a guide on Steam.
