Suggestions on upgrade path with composite bow for strength user?

I plan to stay with 40 Strength/12 Dexterity so that I can use the Short/Composite Bow. I prefer bows over crossbow due to the manual aiming.

To my understanding elemental bows are lacking due to both the split damage/resist. However my Dexterity will be so low that the A/S scaling is meaningless.

Will it be better though to upgrade my composite bow to +14, make it a +4 lightning bow or +9 fire bow and with fire arrows?

Hard to say, go +14 for low physical damage, or chaos for high but split physical/fire damage.

Really depends what you use it for.

Then as long as you don't expect to kill fire resistant enemies, chaos should be fine. Take note that the red dragon is fire resistant, if you plan to snipe him you'll have to go +14.

Also, if you finish the game you can get a second composite bow in NG+.

Input your stats and you can find attack ratings for different combinations. Without looking I would say go with a chaos bow and fire arrows but get a standard bow and arrows when you get to ng+ to deal with fire resistant enemies.

I used fire on my composite bow during my bow only run. lightning is ♥♥♥♥ since there are no lightning arrows.

Between chaos and fire bow, is the former only better if I keep my Humanity at 10+?

You can have a similar damage with lower humanity but it should be better to always have 10, 0 humanity will give you lower damage than fire. If you have dificulty maintaining it, maybe you should get fire instead. But chaos with 10 humanity will do more damage for sure.
