Dark Souls Prepare to Die Edition Migration to Steam - OFFICIAL
Attention Dark Souls fans!

- UPDATE 11/25/14 -
We are working hard to finalize the process to move your Dark Souls: Prepare to Die saves and achievements to Steam. We need to conduct additional testing and we are now targeting December to begin this process. We'll have more information in the coming weeks. Thank you very much for your patience!

*// Original Announcement Below *//

We're pleased to announce that next month it will be possible for players to migrate their Dark Souls: Prepare to Die games, saves and achievements from the Games for Windows Live platform to Steam.

-Games for Windows Live users will be able to redeem their Games for Windows Live Tokens on Steam to get Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition at no additional cost. (To find your Games for Windows Live Token, please head to the support webpage: http://support.xbox.com/en-US/billing/prepaid-codes/locate-games-for-windows-live-tokens)

-In the month of November, there will be a period by which Games for Windows Live Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition users will be able to transfer their Save Data (characters + progress) and Achievements over to their Steam accounts.

-Players will still be able to use their Games for Windows Live Tokens to redeem the Steam version of Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition at no additional cost even after the migration period ends; but game Save Data and Achievements transfer functions may not be available.

-Games for Windows Live Rankings will not be transferred to Steam.
The specific migration start and end dates will be available soon; however the migration period will begin sometime in November 2014 with more specific dates to come.

We will be sharing more information soon regarding the migration process soon, so stay tuned!

Cheers,

The Bandai Namco Games Community Team

There's little evidence that co-op will be any better. It will still be the same system and won't have dscfix.

It's programmed to work with your GFWL friends list. Unless someone redesigns it to work with steamworks it will not function.
However, it probably wont be necessary anymore, since Steam actually has Servers rather than randomly connecting you to 10 people.

I hope you're right.

That's not how GFWL works, it's how the game works. Changing to Steamworks won't change that.

Marketplace won't even work for me.

It isn't required at all to play Dark Souls on the PC. None of the "fixes" are. Played the game vanilla on keyboard and mouse, beat it that way. Would play again that way. Will play again actually to see if I can finally ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ summon people. :D:

That's why he wasted the necessary time to say it's "all but required". It's not necessary for everyone but is for people with lower end machines and it improves everyone's experience overall.

No. If you bought the retail version of Dark Souls without steam, you will be able to use your token, aka serial key to unlock the full version on steam.

I also hope DSfix works after the migration. By "works" i mean no softbans..........
Ty for the explanation. It totally clears up the confusion. I was concerned about rolling over characters.

Also, I doubt that they would softban for the freeware that has sold many copies. If anything, DSfix is a mod that probally has been attributed to thousands of sales.
