Maybe NG+ again
I just tested that now on NG+2
Alternatively, I've also snapped off the tail through manually aiming a bow, but while the process is 'safe', it's also pretty hard to aim right in this game.
The problem is getting him to do it. He can be really stubborn sometimes. -_-
But ya, the longer the weapon, the better. Great Scythe might work.
That was the most helpful video that consistently got the boss to do the flying thrust move.
You want to be facing directly infront the boss but at a medium distance, and watch your surroundings. Kalameet will not start the flying thrust if there's not enough landing room behind you. That is probably the most important point.
Also, watch your stamina gauge as you'll want it to be full to completely block his gap closing hit.
He has two other moves which will help you cut the tail, but it's less reliable to pull off.
It's rare tho.
Also wow, dat video. He just...SIDESTEPPED IT. o_o
