How do I play Offline?
Before someone suggests the obvious, such as turning off my router, internet connection, starting Steam offline, etc...

What I am seeking is a way to JUST play Dark Souls offline (I hate being invaded, the messages are pointless to me, and I never seek "jolly cooperation", so being online is basically useless to me).

I don't want to have to use an option for being offline that turns off Steam, or my internet in general for any length of time. Are their any options?

I have searched google for various things but all results keep coming up with the same things, many of them not related to playing in an offline status, but trying to FIX playing offline :P

I am using the most current version of the game with the beta enabled and no DSFix (note I am not planning to use DSFix... unless it allows me to play offline).

HELP! (and if you also know how to do the same thing for Dark Souls 2, include it please?)

Thanks :)

Just play hollow.

Don't go human except to kindle bonfires - when you do kindle, suicide or let an enemy kill you to go hollow again.

For Dark Souls 2 it's impossible since you can be invaded when hollow... but being invaded while hollow is quite rare so just staying hollow with the Binding Ring is also a good idea.

P.S. You should seriously use DSFix. It fixes the game's graphics massively, on almost any display imaginable, and takes a minute to install. You also don't need the beta enabled as the beta and the current version are the same thing.

Those are not valid options and are the obvious choices. I am seeking an "offline mode" option... THERE MUST BE SOMETHING!!! Wonder if DSFix could add something like that...

I do appreciate the responses tho.

Anything else out there in interwebland?

Run Steam in offline mode.

There is another thread about this with the following reply which works :)

Go offline in steam.
Start the game.
Go online in steam.

Block the game in your firewall/router.

Stay hollow.

Those are pretty much your options.

1) Disable your internet connection.
2) Start Steam and the game.
3) Load your character.
4) Go in windowed mode, turn on your internet
5) Game is running offline, but steam is online. Profit.

1. Start the game while online.
2. Stay Online.
3. Play online, get invaded, summon help, and read messages because they are a huge part of the game that you will miss out on, and without them you could never fully appreciate this game for what it is. (yes I know you've played the game....)
4. Be better for it.

No but seriously, there is no other way aside from what the fine gentlemen above me have suggested. DSfix will most likely not see another update anytime in the foreseeable future because the Dev's are most likely done patching this game. We are lucky we were given the Steam switch/update.

(btw, the beta option is no longer relevant and does not do anything)

Have a Nuke go off near your house to create an EMP and knock out communications. But you may still have issue with the Destructive Force and Lack of Power for your PC.

Maybe i am just getting old, but i have to ask:
Is steam network some super important tool without ANY alternatives to manage your social online circles, that you can't go offline for ~2hours?

Well, you can for example check something in the wiki. Which is the reason why I keep steam online when playing my games offline.
Well, I don't play offline much. Just for farming or going to Sif through the Forest and for Township. I like to look human, so playing as a hollow is not always an option.

Only issue with that is you don't get nearly as good item drops as when Human, and have to turn Human anyways to Kindle.

Otherwise, I'd just play offline Steam to avoid cheaters ramsacking my playthrough's lol. Even happens on PS3 currently more often than legit PVP's.

Not even remotely true. Perhaps you should familiarize yourself with the item discovery stat.
