How to get to the lower area of undead burg?

This area is occupied by undead attack dogs and various other baddies. How can you get there without falling to your death?
I have read that u need a key, however the other night I was watching some random guy stream Dark Souls on twitch and I saw him jumping off somewhere from the higher level.

I just found the solution on the internetz:

CTRL+F "Shorcuts to Area"

These seem quite tricky to pull off. Any other suggestions how to reach this place?
My ig character is lvl 24 with 17 vitality.

You need key from undead parish a use doors where solaire is.

WoW. Well......
After the bridge with the hellkite drake (red dragon/wyvern) you get to a boar. After the boar, behind the gate on a corpse is a key.
Get the key.
Go back to the bridge where the hellkite drake is. There you can Open up a door. Its right at the beginning of the bridge where you came out after the taurus fight. To your understanding: Behind you is the balcony where Solaire is standing. Straight is the bridge with the dragon. You came from the left entrance from the taurus fight. On the right side is the door to lower undead burg. Open up the door, go down the ladder (may take a while xD). Go out, go right up the stairs to open up a shortcut. Progress further down.

You know, i believe you are a new player. You should NOT do any strange shortcuts you have seen in videos or any things in that direction. Just do it normaly.

Good point, I just met the 2nd dark knight and have a lot of trouble beating him.
I guess I will just stay on the fixed paths and not try anything suicidal.. :)
