So GFWL and DS :D!!
I'm trying to go online in Dark Souls, when I download GFWL throuhg GFWM I always get an error "The client must point to the same windows live id... etc" I have read up on the problem and it seems that I cant fix it by downloading windows live sign in assistant since it's alredy built into win 8.1. Plz help?

PS: I have tried reinstalling in so many ways (compatability, running as admin, potato) and nothing is working :'(

""The client must point to the same windows live id... etc" personally never heard of this one, what does it say? it's about the key of the game-live account?
what did you exactly uninstall before reinstalling
try activating the automatic updating for windows update

It says "The client must point to the same Windows Live ID enviorment as the Windows Live ID Sign-in Assistant service." to be exact. I uninstalled GFWL and games for windows marketplace (since it didn't work with the ones that came with DS), then I re-downloaded them from microsoft, still no hit. After that I tried to run it and install it in compatability mode, still no win. And ofc everything I did I did it as an admin. I have googled' the problem but i get no hits whatsoever. It seems that nobody in the rest of the world has gotten this error message. Not on GFWL.

then try uninstalling marketplace and redistributables again, but remove live essentials and sign in assistant too. then download the installer from the official/xbox website and run it again as admin.

I'm having the same exact problem, does GFWL tell you it can't connect to live when you try to download a profile? It gets to about 75% and then stops, and I would really prefer to play Dark Souls with online access.

I'm on Windows 8.1 and I got GFWL to work by linking my Microsoft account to my desktop's user account. From the Start menu, search for "PC settings" and go to "Accounts." Since I've already synced my account, I only have the option of disconnecting my accounts, but you should see something about syncing your accounts. Use your GFWL email/password combination (it may or may not ask you to conver to a Microsoft account, if it does, do it and it should still work) when you sync to your desktop user.
I did everything you said, and I'm using windows 7 64 bit, and I still can't access the marketplace or download microsoft accounts through windows live, and everytime I try it is still giving me the can't connect to live, and when I try to connect to the marketplace it still gives me the "The client must point to the same Windows Live ID enviorment as the Windows Live ID Sign-in Assistant service." error before even opening the tab.

that error is terrible, kinda rare, maybe you installed some live components (gfwl/sign in assistant, for example) on different HDs, if you have more than 1 on your pc?

I'm having this same problem. Here's the exact error http://i.imgur.com/OcigKY3.jpg

I've tried to resolve this with Microsoft Live online support twice now and got nowhere. I'm currently in a very long discussion with them on Twitter to get to the bottom of this. Maybe try tweeting them here https://twitter.com/XboxSupport and they might start to realise it's a problem with their POS software.

I don't even get to the login screen on GFWL so the error message makes no sense. How can I point the client to the correct Live ID if I can't even enter my login details?

I've uninstalled every single Microsoft program that could be interfering with this including Live essentials, Silverlight, Live ID sign-in assistant, GFWL and reinstalled only the ones I need at least 20 times on 4 different computers under Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 and got the same error on every single one. I've tried on a brand new Windows 8.1 install and get the same error immediately.

I've tried linking my Live ID to Windows on both 7 and 8.1 but the error persists.

I found the GFWL client logs and this error was at the bottom:

Error Startup Failed to initialize live id. {Exception: {Type: Microsoft.GamesForWindows.XLiveServices.LiveIdWrapper.IDCRLException} {Message: Exception of type 'Microsoft.GamesForWindows.XLiveServices.LiveIdWrapper.IDCRLException' was thrown.} {Source: } {Stack Trace: } {Target Site: } {IDCRL Error Message: IDCRL Exception In Method: InitializeEx IDCRL ErrorCode : 8004802A}}

Seems to be a problem with XLiveServices. I think it's to do with Windows Live ID sign-in assistant but that program doesn't open, it just runs in the background. I can't find anywhere where I would be logged in or any option to log-out.

I've getting really frustrated that I can't download the game that I've paid for, especially considering they're such a big company.
